I'm an RN and I searched throughout Oregon and Washington to find the best Assisted Living for my mother. I found that in Golden Sands Assisted Living. So many of the assisted living that I looked at were several stories high and I noted that residents occasionally got off on the wrong floor. At Golden Sands there is one floor with about 40 residents surrounding an atrium. If you miss the door to your apartment you'll eventually come back to it because it's only one floor. It was easy for my mom to become oriented to the floor plan quickly and to get to know most of the residents. I also noted that it was the cleanest and odor free which was not the case in a lot of Assisted Living facilities. There is also a large area of land for walking or just enjoying the view. I guess because of my RN background I scrutinize everything. I frequently visit my mom and can arrive at any time. I have found the staff to be very caring and always smiling as they assist residents. After two years my mom has, at the age of 94, developed confusion at night. Being a caregiver for people in their later years is a very difficult position and takes a special kind of person with a lot of patience. All of the staff are very impressive and their ability to deal with the complex problems associated with aging residents. They are always checking on Mom just popping in to say hi is she okay every hour or two. Her medications are managed well and I feel very comfortable having her there as do all members of my family who came to evaluate Golden Sands before she moved in. There are all sorts of activities arranged for the residents and many bus trips.. which was hard to imagine when you have people in wheelchairs and people with walkers. The activities director does an amazing job always coming up with new ideas and coming to their room to encourage them to join in activities going on. Thank you for giving me and my family peace of mind knowing that she is getting the best care. Cherie Scott
