This facility is poorly run at the hands of the Executive Director, Jerry Lee. He treats residents poorly. He seems to have no idea how dementia residents live their life day to day. The facility is his stage and the moment you walk in you are part of his cast. It is all a facade. He is a used car salesman through and through. He will sell you a bad bill of goods and tell you whatever you need to hear to get you in the door and cash that check. The staff are miserable and it shows. However the aids in the afternoon go above and beyond even when there are not enough of them to care for all the residents safely. If you go in and see a lot of family members there its because nobody feels safe leaving their loved one unattended in this facility for very long. My loved one was only in this location for a very brief time. I honestly do not know how this facility is still open. It seems like a liability for Brookdale to employ Jerry Lee.

Think twice about putting your vulnerable loved ones under the care of executive director, Jerry Lee. He was involved in elder abuse against my dad, breaking three laws in the process. Because he was just an interim director for the facility my dad was in, they quietly just removed him and allowed him to continue in the Harbor Bay facility. If your parent has dementia, put them somewhere they will be cared for. It might not be here. And to their reply below: I did call the 877 number and talked to the district director and regional director. The district director, Jim Coumbs, had absolutely NO compassion for my dad and was just covering their errors in staffing. So, don't expect any help from corporate when you need it.

My husband has been living at Brookdale Harbor Bay for over a year now. This is a specialized memory care facility (there is another Brookdale in Gig Harbor which is assisted living - two different facilities). I have been very happy with the care he has received here. I spend time there almost every day, and I am very impressed with the caring staff and the concern for both the resident and the family members who are dealing with the devastating disease of dementia. I read the earlier review, which appears to be for the Brookdale Assisted Living, not Brookdale Harbor Bay. Brookdale Harbor Bay has an excellent reputation in the community, and I would recommend it as a possibility to explore if you are looking for Alzheimers/dementia care for a loved one.

Brookdale is falsely advertising a lifestyle service they are unable to provide. Home care for seniors is vital, and affects the health and welfare of its recipients. It should not be advertised if it is not available. The purpose of this complaint is to have this fact on record, so anyone else attempting to contract with Brookdale for this service will be forewarned that they risk being left without it just as it is most needed, as happened to me and my mom. My mother is an 84-year old widow who lives independently in a small clean apartment. She is in good health, and takes care of herself. She recently lost her home health aide who came twice a week to check on her well-being and help with chores and shopping. A replacement was needed. After lengthy research, I made contact with Brookdale and spoke to their Personalized Living Coordinator, Christina Rauch, who confirmed the availability of their advertised care services. I made an appointment for an intake interview. On Wednesday, August 16th, about 10 days from the date I originally made contact with Ms. Rauch, I met with her at her office where she assured me yet again that she would be able to arrange for the necessary services and meet all the needs Id presented, as this was exactly the kind of service they provided. She was enthusiastic and warm. She gave me a 32-page stack of forms to read, fill out, and sign, which took me over an hour. These forms included a PERSONALIZED LIVING SERVICES AGREEMENT. When I returned the forms we went through them one by one. Once again, she reviewed the care requirements and assured me she could provide them. The next day at noon, Ms. Rauch met with my mom at her apartment for an assessment. When I called for an update, she said the visit went well, and she would be meeting the following day with her Executive Director (ED) and staff to go over scheduling. Hopefully, they would be able to fit my mom in. Eh, what? This was the VERY FIRST indication that there was a possibility they could not meet their promises to me and my mom. I was upset, but hopeful that everything would work out. The next day, Friday, I waited until the afternoon before I called for an update. Ms. Rauch was gone for the day so I left a desperate message with the receptionist for her supervisor to call me. At 2:00 PM, Ms. Rauch called to say they were understaffed and unable to provide the services she had promised and agreed to. No one else has contacted me since.
