The facility has been updated and seems to be running smoothly.

My mother had a massive stroke, was immobile, non-verbal and could only communicate by facial expressions. We placed her at Canterbury since it was near family (my brother and I both live 2 hours away). Her room was always dirty, had lots of bugs and had residents with dementia wandering in and out of her room since they did not have a locked down unit. The final straw was when transportation dropped her off at her doctor's office at Parkview North without checking her in at registration. My brother was running late coming from Michigan and when he got to the facility, they said no one had checked her in or seen her. He knew she was there because he called the facility and they said she was 'dropped off.' He and security searched the building and found her in her wheelchair in the corner of the waiting room at the hospital entrance, not the professional office building where her appointment was, with no identifying papers or a sitter present. The parking attendants had found her and were trying to communicate with her while they assumed a family member was getting a car to pick her up (she had been there at least an hour). When we contacted Canterbury, they did not have a policy of a safe sitter staying with their client while waiting for a doctor's appointment if family could not be there. They told us the driver would occasionally stay there but if they had other drop offs, they were not able to do so. I was very discouraged and disgusted because my mother had no voice and they did not keep her safe enough to prevent this from happening. I highly recommend another facility since the quality of care and caring demeanor was sorely lacking.
