My mother was admitted to Mitchell Manor at the end of last year. It was the worst experience of our family's life. There were so many incidents during her 3 day stay that were frightening and unbelievable and cannot be counted. My sister was with mom during her first day there so I will let her speak to those experiences during her review. After sharing her experiences with me, I wanted to spend the day alone with mom so that I could evaluate things on my own. When i got there in the morning, mom had her breakfast before her which consisted of a frozen waffle swimming in syrup and strips of raw bacon. She was not able to feed herself and nobody was helping her. A nursing assistant then came in and said someone would be coming in to give mom physical therapy and later returned to tell me she was told she was a hospice patient and didn't need any therapy. I left mom for about 15 minutes and upon returning found her with a cold overcooked chicken breast on her lunch tray and again nobody helping her eat. I complained to staff about the condition of her meals and I was told bedridden patients were served last and that there was always canned chicken noodle soup to heat up if mom didn't like her meals. Mom went to sleep so I left for a short time for lunch. Upon my return with my sister, we found our mom upset in a wheelchair in the middle of the hallway . She had been bedridden for almost 2 months prior to this. I got the attention of the nurse who was assigned to her and he helped return her to bed without comment and we were extremely upset. Needless to say, my sister spent the night and never left her side again. We, of course, needed to get mom out of there and with the assistance of our social worker from hospice we were able to rescue mom and take her into my sister's home. When the ambulance attendants arrived to transport mom home, they couldn't reach anyone by doorbell or by calling several phones on different floors. They sat outside waiting to get into the facility. I called my sister, who was waiting with my mom, to let them in. These are but a few of the incidents during her brief stay that graphically stick in my mind and will be there forever. I would not send an animal to Mitchell Manor for care. I am a registered nurse and have not experienced anything like this in all of my years caring for others. The care mom received was unacceptable and inhumane. I pray that others who have experienced situations like these at Mitchell Manor (or at other facilities) step forward and report them to defend those who cannot speak for or defend themselves. I give Mitchell Manor ZERO stars but am unable to post my review without a star.
