From the moment you walk in the door to the time you leave, you cant help but smile, laugh, and share/create memories with all of the loving residents and team members. It is truly a wonderful community that enriches the lives of older adults.

I have worked for Presbyterian Homes at the Avalon Square community since 2008. The faith based community offers a comfort that few others can provide. Every morning the staff gather to pray for our residents, families, staff and in recent times the greater community. Residents and their families are who we exist to serve. I have the opportunity to walk alongside future residents and their loved ones while learning their story. Avalon Square offers an environment in which staff can 'create smiles in the eyes of older adults.' It is a honor and privilege to be a part of that journey while truly enjoying the work that I do!

My relative is currently a resident. I cannot recommend this home for anybody's loved ones with dementia. It may be different if you're without dementia but the memory care unit is troubled. Often, on a weekly basis, for months now, our loved one has been found with a heavily soiled diaper (urine leaks through her diaper, through her chair protective pad, and through the chair, & is moderately dehydrated. Day aides have failed to fully assist when asked to assist her to use the bathroom, as she can still move but unable to walk, even when they are lounging around the empty dining area/chatting with each other. Visitors should not be changing their loved ones because the aides fail to do so. She's lost her ability to walk in the last 2 years due to lack of initiation to exercise. Some staff are actually very caring, which is why I've given 2 stars but they are outnumbered by poor ones. Nobody deserves to be left to sit in urine and feces for hours afterwards. Or, be generally neglected because staff doesn't want to deal with changing a patient and leaves them for the next shift. Why she constantly has moderate rashes. No log of her incontinence/diaper changes even though we've repeatedly asked staff to begin doing so. Numerous reports of this type of neglect have largely been ignored by the RN and director of Avalon. There are many amenities but stay clear of the memory care unit as it is not properly managed.Update 07-24/19: In January, I visited my grandmother on a Saturday and we watched her favorite movies for hours. The next day at approx. 3 p.m. my aunt (her daughter) came to visit her. She found her on the floor crying in pain. She called for staff to assist. They hadn't checked on her again for quite some time. She died 3 days later because she had a DNR order. She clearly broke something below her waist as every time she was turned in her bed, she screamed in pain. She was a very tough lady. She was administered morphine for comfort and succumbed to no food and water on the 3rd day post her fall.

The most wonderful facility. My grandmother was in memory care. The people really cared. They even visited her in the hospital and attended her funeral. My grandfather has an apartment there. The building is decorated beautifully. Everywhere you turn it feels like home. We have our family events there. The dining area, 50's cafe and area with a fireplace that's like a living room. The food is great, activities like WI bowling and outings to the store are only very few opportunities to socialize. I wish I could live there!
