Countryside Manor has the appearance of a rather decent assisted living and memory care facility, but it is nothing out of the ordinary when it comes to what the field itself offers. Staffing is adequate, but turnover is a problem. Your loved one will get used to a few familiar faces, but caregivers quit or are terminated left and right. There's not much that can be done about that, unfortunately, as we still haven't figured out that poor wages in the medical field attract desperate workers, and this industry requires a lot of physical and emotional labor which many aren't willing to sell for $12-14.50 an hour. The food is incredibly hit or miss and is almost exclusively ordered through a national chain that has a reputation for 'nursing home food,' so.. let your mind take you where I'm leading; the food can be nasty. You want mashed potatoes? How about some nice hydrogenated garbage? Parent company Senior Lifestyle is not interested in providing all their communities with better dining options; they'd rather be select and exclusive about that level of support and merely offer it to their higher-end facilities. The dining director tries their best, but when you're not given much to work with you can't create delicious food out of jail cell grub. Wifi throughout the facility is a mess. They're always in the stage of implementing a change, but have never done so as of this post. If your loved one wants to use reliable internet, good luck with that. The activities are often fun and well-planned, and the memory care section has a responsible and professional director who engages with residents. If you're on medicare, you'll be given the option of having your family member stay across at the East building--don't do this under any circumstances. The rooms are significantly smaller and the building has absolutely no charm, no feeling of coziness, and is never the center of attention. Everything happens in their West (main) building. East residents are invited to every gathering, but aside from small activities, nothing really goes on over there. It's where they stick the poor people, basically. Countryside is phenomenally expensive. You will be paying anywhere from 5-7k monthly, depending on your room choice and assessment prior to move in. The service provided isn't worth it, but again, this is the industry standard. Senior Lifestyle is predatory. They want your money and they want it as soon as possible. This is not a company that actually cares about seniors. Do not fool yourself by their positive messages and warmth; they are out for their bottom line and your account will be charged for any extra miscellaneous housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance fees on top of the thousands and thousand and thousands you give them monthly. Read your lease. Question your lease. Do not accept non-answers as answers. Be wary of this facility, mainly because of the company that owns them. Additionally, be skeptical of the five-star reviews. I know for a fact that some of these people work for Senior Lifestyle or Countryside Manor and are fluffing their own reputation.
