I would never ever bring a loved one here! I trusted them with caring for my dad who had a stroke and was dealing with an early onset of dementia. I would come weekly to see my dad and multiple times I showed up, he would be missing toe nails because they would drag his feet while he was in his wheel chair. My dad had skin caked in his hair from his eczema that they didnt take care for or put his prescribed ointment on. My dad needs help using the restroom so I told one of the caregivers, and they came in and handed him a bottle to relieve himself in rather than taking him to the bathroom. There were multiple times I came to see him and he would be slouched over half asleep about to fall out of his wheel chair with food all over the front of him. I had to cut his nails because I realized that they didnt once trim his fingernails which were crusted with dirt and food underneath. There were multiple times as well that they made him doctors appointments without telling me until the day of and then would tell me that he had to go and I had to take him. Jezel (their head nurse)and Valerie(their previous executive director) told me face to face that they were changing his dressing on his wounds every day (which they werent) when I confronted him about his bloody feet and old bandages. Then, come to find out, they were not qualified to do that and said they would never have done that even though I watched jezel change his dressing right in front of me. Theyve been through 3 executive directors, just as many nurses and even more caregivers in the few months that we were there. They hire such incompetent people to run their facility its shocking. Every time I came in all the people that were suppose to be caring for the residents were on their phones. They told me that they would help me get my dad onto Medicaid after a spend down. Then 3 days before it was due after calling them for weeks trying to get help, they told me I was on my own and there was nothing they could do for me. At that point my dad has spent down all of his money there. So I tried to pay what we could. Then the day before I turned 28, the cottages of Lacey sued me for what my dad owes. This is only part of my experience. My dad had wounds that developed and because of a lack of care and cleanliness, and then he was diagnosed with MRSA. Now Ive had to get a $20,000 loan in my name to get my dad into a new home because they couldnt offer him the level of care that he needed. I trusted them to help our family and I will never make that mistake again.

Our mom settled in easily, feeling welcomed and cared for. We are pleased with the care provided by the warm, friendly capable staff. And Mama likes the food.

My husband moved in a year ago, lived for 10 months there until he died. At the beginning of his stay, it was well-run, but as time went on, it constantly went down hill. Now, the food is atrocious - wiener on a cold bun, cold baked beans and canned fruit cocktail was served often. The administration and nursing staff was constantly changing as if going thru a revolving door, with no continuity. The night staff was not attentive and this is when my husband fell and had a serious head injury and had to go to hospital. I was ready to move him to a new place but he died too soon.

I have been looking at countless other assisted living facilities in our area trying to find the right fit for my Father-in-law, with no luck until now. Thank you to the wonderful staff at The Cottages for the care and compassion they showed our family when we met with them. Finally my mind has been put to ease that we have found exactly what we have been searching for.
