Unfortunately, there is a high turnover of staff who directly care for the residents here which results in untrained people taking care of your loved ones. My 100-year-old grandmother was left lying on the floor for several hours after a fall. Staff did not check on her like they were supposed to. She fell a second time a couple of hours after they found her the first time resulting in a concussion. We had to go by ambulance to the ER where the doctor said she could not remain at Garden Estates and needed a nursing home. I spoke with the director of the facility who said we were still tied to a 30-day move out notice. I told her that under normal circumstances I would of course give a 30-day move out notice, but this was a special situation because the staff had not cared properly for my grandmother and the doctor said my grandmother now needed a full-skilled nursing home. We could not afford to pay for both. I even pointed out a point in the contract that said that if a resident could no longer afford to pay their rent, they would be allowed to move out. We did give them a one week move out notice and told them that they were free to rent her apartment. I went into the business office and asked them to quit withdrawing money from my grandmother's checking account. I also sent an email to the director whom I had spoken to and told her the same. Guess what? They still took the money out of my grandmother's checking account causing a negative balance. You would think that a place that is in the business of taking care of the elderly would be more understanding when their level of care suddenly changes and they can no longer stay there. I hung in with this place for three years even though there were multiple incidences when my grandmother was not cared for properly. I stepped up and took up their slack, cleaning things that they should have cleaned, cleaning her when they should have cleaned her, etc, just to try to keep my grandmother in a place that she was familiar with. Her safety is my number one concern; however, and when she was no longer safe at Garden Estates, I had to do what the ER physician and hospital social worker mandated and move her to a nursing home. One would think that a company in the business of providing care for the elderly would want their residents in the safest place for them as well, even if that meant releasing them from the 30-day move out stipulation.

My aunt had a terrible experience a few weeks ago at this community. She lives in one of the apartments. Water was shut off to the building for 24+ hours due to a pipe repair. No provisions were provided to the residents until the next afternoon. Management needed to step up and provide help to the resident's. My aunt called and I was able bring her water and food but what about the other people who have no family to help them.

I have a family member who lives here. This is a terribly managed community. The food quality and options is lacking and the servers always look over worked or mad.The front desk people seem very personable but the activities director and property director and the sales person seem very sad most of the time when I visit my family member. The atmosphere seems uninviting.
