Since I live in Canyon Lake, My Orthopaedic Onocology Sergion at the Methodist Hospital in the Medical Center San Antonio, recommended that I do my post operation, sarcoma, rehab exercises at neareby Kirkwood Manor in New Braunsville. I shared a room with a veteran and ex-Texas Highway patroolman; we bacame best friends in no timw, looked forward twice everyday to sitting at the same lunchroom table with two other new friends, shared many, many life stories together. Weekly menus were posted in the lobby and lunchroom offering a wide selection of choices. For me, it was a bit sad leaving my friends behind when my seven-day stay was up. I can't say enough about my rehab exercises; the rehab staff members had a complete record of my illness and matched me with the many various types of exercising equipment to fit my particular needs, along with their personal advise and assistance, e.g., the correct way to use a walker, and that, in my case, took some training. Now, should I need more rehab in the future, dealing with this stage 3 cancer - It will be Kirkwood manor for me.

One of their vehicles blocked the back ramp of our wheelchair van for 20 minutes. It was raining and 39 degrees outside. I walked office to office trying to find the owner and no one came out until I said I called for a tow truck. Our vehicle is clearly marked as a wheelchair van, parked in a wheelchair spot with signage stating it has a rear lift. The driver left her van running, doors unlocked, keys in it. When she returned she got attitude for being called out for blocking the spot. She is lucky NBPD had not showed up. They don't let business slide on something like that. I called to discuss this over with an administrator and as of this post, none have returned my call.Edit: The director has called and stated the employee will be receiving additional training.

Just visited this facility and was pleasantly surprised by such a warm welcome! Everyone had smiles and were available to answer my many questions. Its hard when you are faced with the unknown, but they were able to help navigate our family in the right direction. I would highly recommend this when needed!

Kirkwood Manor is a wonderful facility both for patients and employees. Patients are not just cared for... but are cared about and loved.
