Chappell Hill Methodist Episcopal ChurchA very beautiful Gothic style church with a white clapboard siding and stunning stained-glass windows. The roof has two imposing towers each topped with a spherical finial. (A distinctive ornament at the apex of the roof). I had to look it up as I didnt know what a finial was. For a better description, read the paragraph below.The Methodist Church is a large Carpenter Gothic structure with pine clapboard siding and a hipped roof. The structure is dominated by two comer towers, each of which displays a pyramidal roof crowned by a finial , and which contains a double wooden entry door. The larger north tower has a louvered belfry with a skirt directly below. Tripartite intersecting tracery windows pierce the large wall areas on three sides. The lancet form is the salient feature of al l the stained-glass windows and door entrances. The other single variety of window which occurs is the small circular portal appearing on the west front side of both corner towers, directly above the entrance doors. (Taken from the National Register Of Historic Places)Organized prior to 1847. First pastor, Robert Alexander, had been a missionary in Texas since 1837. Original church built in 1853; was destroyed in great storm of 1900; rebuilt in 1901, constructed of pine. Memorial inscription placed in window in honor of Dr. Alexander, a member of the Texas Conference for 45 years. Texas Methodist Conference sessions were held in Chappell Hill six times: 1847, 1854, 1860, 1865, 1870 and 1878. (Ref. Texas Historical Commission)
