I give Otterbein 5 stars. Here is why. My mother has been at Otterbein Perrysburg for 9 months. I am writing this review because I am deeply grateful for the care they provide my mother who is 77 with MS. It has changed her life and my life significantly for the better. First, I'd like to say that I have been my mother's care taker on and off for many years. I probably share some of the same concerns that you do while searching for long term care for your family or even yourself. Before Otterbein, my Mom had a real struggle at home for the last 5 years. Home healthcare is in high demand and finding and keeping good HHC people is very hard. Lots of no shows, quality of people, theft of meds and lack of around the clock care were my main issues at home. Honestly, we made the trade-off of 'staying at home' and accepted the problems that came with home health care a little too long. In 2017 and 2018 Mom was in 4 other care facilities after falls or pneumonia before moving to Otterbein, so I have been around the block. Simply put, Otterbein has been the best provider of nursing healthcare to my mother by a significant margin. Leadership is EXCELLENT - Lisa and Megan are *amazing* to work with. I can call either of these people and leave a message and know I will get a call back in an appropriate amount of time. They are both very caring and invest time with speaking with my mother on a regular basis. Nursing is EXCELLENT - Rhonda and Dawn are amazing, caring and well organized. I have a high level of trust for all the nursing team I come in contact with. Doctors are EXCELLENT - Dr Wague is a nice person who won my mother over within a few meetings. (Mom has a hard time trusting new doctors to say the least). Aids are EXCELLENT - Taylor, Brook, Sam, Hanna, Annette, Destry, and many others are patient and caring with my mothers needs. They provide the daily normal routine my mom has adjusted to and have become my moms friends who she trusts. The food is really good too! (I wish I remembered all the aids names, especially the girl on 3rd shift that bakes the cookies).Of course along any journey you have some bumps, which weve had. Mom had a real hard time adjusting to a new environment for the first 60 days. The leadership was professional, appropriate, empathetic, and even appropriately stern when providing advice/help understanding how this new way of life works. That included ideas about changing doctors, interactions with other residents, and her exceptions of the new staff and living arrangements etc. They balanced the needs of my mother AND the needs of their Otterbein team very well. Their suggestions and solutions have worked out well. I mentioned that Otterbein has changed my life in positive ways too many to mention, but the most important is that Otterbeins leadership has helped ME to understand how changes with my mother's aging and needs impact me and that I sometimes have to see things from a different angle. Their wisdom and transparency is deep and well articulated and well received. Secondly, I now have a much better relationship with my mother. All the issues that were stressful, like dealing with home healthcare, covering no shows, tracking meds and so on, stole the meaningful time and energy I needed to use for just enjoying my time with my mom. I have that back now and it really an amazing feeling. Thirdly, I can now travel for business and vacations and not worry that mom would be alone because no one showed up for their home health care shift. Please note, no one has asked me to write this review nor did I have any discussion with Otterbeins leadership about providing this review. It comes directly from me based on my insights over the last 9 months. If you want to talk to me directly about my experience with Otterbein please just Google me, Ian Hartten.
