We have experienced the great care for 2 family members. Wonderful place for those who need extra care for their health needs. I would highly recommend their service. Staff was very helpful.

NEVER staffed appropriately; call lights go off for an hour of more before being addressed, smells like a nasty port-a-john on a 100 degree summer day as soon as you walk through the door, care bare minimum, staff always complaining about being understaffed and reported call ins as the excuse anytime we complained about care. I feel sad for any patient there that does not have family to advocate for them. On a positive note, the rehabilitation staff for PT, OT, etc. are awesome.

It is never easy to place loved ones in a nursing facility, but we have been pleased that we chose Surry Community. The entrance is welcoming and clean, not smelling when you open the door as many do. Many times residents and families are working a puzzle or enjoying watching the birds. The staff has been very receptive to us asking questions and has tried to help us find answers. Most of them have tried hard to help my sister-in-law adapt to not being at home. Several have gone above and beyond to show her they care. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because there is not enough staff for the number of patients. Sometimes the patients have to wait to be attended to. This is a state-wide problem which needs to be addressed by the government and the owners and managers of these facilities. The local staff is doing a good job.
