I had one of the best paying jobs in the county and had just started a family of my own, when in the fall of 2015 I lost everything. First my kids then my job. Then like a domino effect my entire life started to unravel. Throughout the next 4 years my hopes and dreams withered away, all my talents dusted and rusted... My effort and energy went into the struggle for survival. Evicted from apartments for lack of rent, bouncing from couch to couch and job to job. The Justice system had failed me, and to be quite honest I feel like it robbed me. My child support agreement was practically chiseled in stone, and for many years I tried to find employment similar to my original wages, but to no avail. I consider myself rather resourceful, but trying to make ends meet is impossible in today's society when bringing home about $4 an hour after all deductions. Trying to live that way is so demoralizing that it's frightening. Resorting to drugs, crime or contemplating suicide is done on a daily basis by people in similar situations. Second Wind is the only place that is dedicated to help the individual as well as the cause. They truly want to make better lives for people and help everyone make the most of their potential at the individuals own pace. Let's ask ourselves a question..Would you wake up early on your day off work, go in the middle of the reputably worst part of town and spend your day helping strangers? Most people definitely wouldn't. But the people here at Second Wind do..and they do it every week. Thanks to Second Wind I'm no longer living in a tent in the woods. I thank God for everyone here!
