My mother moved here in October, 2019. She has started a new, positive chapter of her life by being here. Alissa, the Executive Director goes to great lengths to engage her in the activities my mother might like. Georgie, the activities director, keeps her phone and TV remote working. Renata, the nurse tries to anticipate her medical needs to keep her healthy and safe. My mother finds the staff kind, and her fellow residents helpful, friendly and interesting. She enjoys the company of others, and also enjoys being in the peace of her own room. This has been a great fit for her, and is allowing her to be more independent and cared for at the same time.

My mother has been a resident at Brookdale of Troy for eight months. The facility itself is beautiful, and for the first five months things went well. The last month has been a totally different story and I have given a 30 day notice to the facility that my mother will be leaving.I live very close to the facility and visit my mother everyday. She suffered a stroke several months ago and requires feeding, bathing, dressing and toileting, all of which I pay for. The facility is also in charge of her laundry. I come and feed my mother dinner daily as well as get her changed and ready for bed. While there are some aides who do give good care, others are not even trying. On December 31st, I came to visit my mother and found her in the same pants she had worn for three days because her laundry was not done. When I asked why I was told, 'it was midnight shift's job.' I fed, toileted and changed my mother into her pajamas and put her to bed. On January 1st I arrived at 1 pm and my mother was still in her pajama pants that I had put on her and was in a soaking, stooled brief. When I asked why, I was told 'midnight's didn't do her laundry.' I changed my mothers brief and put on another pair of pajama pants. In addition to this negligence, there are also two men residents who roam the halls and try to come in my mother's room daily. They have used her bathroom, left clothing in her room, and asked to sleep with her. I have brought this to the attention of staff and locked my mother's room but it continues to happen. Last week my mother received cottage cheese and applesauce two nights in a row for dinner. My mother got a bed sore a month ago and after I reported it dressing changes were started, however it is not healing in fact is getting larger (how can it when she is left is soaking briefs). I also shower my mother every Friday. As I am currently paying over 8,000.00 a month, her care is not acceptable and bordering negligence. I would not recommend this facility and am moving my mother to a new facility.

The employees are very kind and they treat the residents with the utmost respect. Brookdale is very laid back and organized when it comes to their residents.
