My mom was there for Respite Care about 3 years ago while we went on vacation. We set it up for her to go back this year. My sister explained to The Claiborne employee that she was diagnosed with dementia and informed her of my moms ordinary behaviors. She was told that it wasnt a problem and they could handle it. I live with my mom and these are her usual behaviors: Repetition of questions, staying in the bathroom for long periods of time, and always stating that she has to catch the train to go back home. At times, she will tell you exactly what is on her mind....there is no filter at this point. Its a week before our trip, all paperwork, extra clothes/items purchased for her stay, med list, tests run and doctors visit completed, an assessment was just done at her home and she WAS REFUSED. Yes, my mom was upset when I explained the purpose of the ladies visit. I think in her mind, she thought that I was sending her to a nursing home permanently. She could not believe I would do something like that to her. Keep in my mind, this is an 85 year old dementia patient who requires memory care. My problems are: Are you not equipped to handle certain behaviors? Do you only want patients there who are heavily medicated so you can collect an easy check? When you are assessed at your job, is it on your worst day or is your overall performance considered? When the two ladies were at the house from The Claiborne, I explained to them that was abnormal behavior for her. I was not asked 90% of the questions,. I was told that they would answer them based off their observation. Yes, she was very upset.Maybe, you, as employees should be assessed for your observations on that ONE DAY that someone really ticks you off at work. In my opinion, the assessment should have been done BEFORE you had us to do everything we did for her to come there. Dont tell us that its not a problem and you can deal with different behaviors beforehand and then realize you cant. She is not even in the worst stages.Inasmuch as you do have a very nice facility, I will not recommend anyone to send their loved ones to you unless they can sit quietly and watch television. Please know that I HAVE and WILL CONTINUE to tell AS MANY PEOPLE as I can, about my extremely unpleasant experience I had with you. Also know that after my moms first visit, I sent patients to you!

My grandmother has had multiple UTIs that go untreated, the most recent for a week after being diagnosed. Her hygiene and bathroom usage are seemingly unmonitored in a legal or moral standard and this is UNACCEPTABLE care in a memory unit.
