Reminds me of the Navy enlisted barracks in Keflavik, Iceland where I was stationed 1975-1976. I am here for rehab after a right hip replacement. This is too far away from all the activities and people who rely on me in New Orleans. Eventually I expect to be able to return home, to drive my own car again once my treatment is finished here. However, right now the rules are that if I want to travel away from the center, I have to arrange to be picked up by a relative or friend -- which means I have to hope they can fit me into their schedules.

Friendly Staff, Clean Rooms and Common Areas. Insufficient seating in rooms, but that maybe to promote use of common areas.Note: I base my opinion from observations as a visitor who only stayed a short time.

I used to work at this facility as a CNA for a grand total of 3 months. Some of the workers, nurses and higher ups included, just didnt care about the care and comfort of the residents. Im not saying that all the workers are like that, there are some like myself that loved and cared for my residents. On top of the lack of compassion, we, the CNAs especially, were overworked. There would be many days when I would come into work and I would have 40 residents to myself. Some of whom I would have to feed, give bed baths or showers, and turn, on top of changing sheets/making beds, changing residents solid diapers, helping in the cafeteria, and making sure residents were where they needed to be at specific times. I tried my best to give all the residents quality care in the short time that I was there. But it became too much. My last straw was when I was fussed at by the CNA supervisor and the nurse supervisor for not getting a resident out of bed. I began to explain that to get the particular resident out of bed I would need someone to help with the hoyer lift (two people are needed to use a hoyer lift to guarantee the resident is transferred safely). I was told to find someone to help. I looked but everyone else was either busy or refused. I even asked some of the nurses if they could help but all they said was thats not my job . Since I couldnt find anyone to help me I didnt get the resident out of bed. I did make sure to turn them every hour and provide them with entertainment. Later I was fussed at again for not getting the resident out of bed. After explaining that i had no one to help with the hoyer lift i was told to do it by myself. I refused and was fussed at more, they were even threatening to fire me, but Id rather have my resident safe than risk their life by transferring them by myself. I even asked the CNA supervisor but she refused and said she had more important things to tend to. After that ordeal things just went down hill. And I had to resign. I would not recommend anyone send anyone they love to this place. They dont care about the safety of the residents or employees. Just dont do it. I know this review is super long but i wanted to all to see the perspective of a former employee.

I cant imagine any poor souls sent here without family. My mother went without medicine, changing, and even food. She was left in her own bowel movement without being changed, went without pain medicine with advanced stage cancer and they dont ever bother to bring her food. I was in tears that I actually sent my mother here for such horrible care. I could have brought her to my own home and left her alone all day and she would have received better care this place she be condemned and the doors shut. If I can ever figure out how to report this place to the highest authority for neglect of the elderly, I will. Please do not send your worst enemy here.
