I have had various, but MANY various experiences with the Harlan County CAA (Community Action Agency) and I must say that I do not have 1 single complaint with this establishment nor do I for the workers there! This, to me, is an unusual feat for a gov't run agency and I'm sorry but to tell the truth, I have never visited one in 30 years that I could not honestly complain about EXCEPT for the Harlan Co. CAA!! Currently, I have a very special worker assigned to my particular case with this agency named Beth Craig and she is a very wonderful and pleasant lady who made one of the hardest times of my life ten times easier than it could have been in one visit and she has been amazing to work with ever since! She not only does her job, she goes above and beyond her job description to help others and her genuine kindness will make an extremely rough day seem effortless after sitting down to speak with her about your particular needs in order to become a more productive member of the community and if I had to deal with a grouchy worker who seemed to be annoyed by my presence, it would have caused me to make a decision that would have greatly impacted my life in a negative way! Of course, that would be stupid on my part, but my point here is that most of the state workers I have dealt with over the years did not realize or seem to care that their attitude and demeanor towards people who are reaching out for help are already feeling lowly and humble when they enter that place and one look or word can defeat them in every way so it MATTERS how you treat people! Especially working in this sector!! I have no personal ties to this woman, but she is so good at her job and good with people in general that she probably doesn't even realize ho much of a load she takes from my shoulders when she spends less than 10 min. helping me towards accomplishing my goals. When she is out of the office, another worker by the name of Sandy helps me an she is another worker that I have had a positive experience with so if you have needs that require you to visit the Harlan Co CAA, rest assured that you will be treated with the utmost respect all the way from the receptionists to the worker you will be placed with there, they all have smiles and greetings as you pass by their doorways to reach your final destination and it's like being at your family's house instead of a dreadful sit down with a stranger to talk about your personal issues and/or obstacles that you need help with! I am in a great program called 'P2P' or 'Paths to Promise' that has enabled me to get back into college and afforded me the necessities to fulfill my dreams and aspirations and the difference it has made and still makes in my life is phenomenal!! So, have no fear and just go for it if you need a change for the better! And good luck in all that you endeavor to do:)
