I am well aware of the high ratings for this senior center and I respect those who wrote them. I would just like to add that from the perspective of a 62 year old man who enjoys playing Bingo that I found their rules and the director (Mary) who enforces them to be way too strict and marmish for me. When I got a loud SHUSH from the director for talking during Bingo I was told 'we don't talk here during Bingo'. I paid to play and there is no such rule posted anywhere. She spoke to me like I was a 5 year old who needed slapped with a ruler. I explained to her that I have always talked quietly at VFW Bingo with no problems. She said that because so many people wear hearing aids that it is not allowed at the Russell Senior Center Bingo. Alright, I get the point but it does disregard the fact that one can still be a senior without being in their 80's or 90's and hearing impaired. I left and gave the rest of my games to a friend. I will not be back. It is clear that this particular senior center wants to cater more to the very elderly and I get that. However, they should keep in mind that the very elderly are often in assisted or nursing care where activities are already provided and that people in their 60's and 70's might enjoy a senior center they could feel comfortable at too that is not just aimed at those who need to be and enjoy being treated like 5 year olds. Some of us can actually still play a game and share small talk with each other. Some of us are not used to an environment where adults shush and scold other adults.
