A warm, welcoming environment with caring staff. You can see it on the residents' faces that they are truly at home at Bickford.

My father had a heart attack and he was caring for my mother with alzheimer's. There are no facilities in Sioux City for memory care that don't require getting on a long waiting list. Bickford seemed to have what we needed in that it had memory care of and skilled nursing for my father. My parents only stayed there 3 full days before we moved them both to Sioux Falls, SD. The care was unbelievably poor at Bickford. Jill Collings, the director, will tell you what you want to hear rather than making sure that nurses and staff members are doing their jobs properly. My parents went without medications for 2 days and my sister caught the mistake. We were charged for 15 days although my parents were only there for three. We moved them in over the Labor Day weekend. After speaking with the director about the air conditioner in their room not working, the medication debacle and a drain in the restroom which backed up and flooded the area, Jill requested that I send her an email so that she could contact her corporate office. I received an email a week later that stated the 'contract' that my father signed at the hospital required we pay for 15 days. This was not what I expected from a company which charges over $8,000/per month for a very small apartment. I was sorely disappointed. We ended up moving my parents to Sioux Falls, SD, where they were treated with kindness and respect. My father died a week later at Avera Hospital although he had wonderful care throughout his stay there. My mother is at an amazing facility which is brand new, where the staff and nurses are professional and care for each resident like family. Sioux City has a lack of quality facilities which is unfortunate. I would not recommend Bickford to anyone.
