My mom is on the memory care unit. We went there to see her on vacation and luckily my sister is her POA. If she wasn't I would of pulled her that day. My mom had no blankets on her bed that were clean. The aides sat in the dining room the whole time we were there. The music they played was appropriate, but was very loud. The chairs and tables were never cleaned and you could feel the food on the chair rest from residents touching them after they ate. My moms clothes were dirty and hair not even combed. We brought my mom in her favorite snack the girls took it away from her and hid it in a drawer in the dining room. I am sure she never saw that again. They are treated like cattle and wasn't allowed out of the dining room. I took my mom off the wing for a walk. I had to ask the RN to let me. The aides played dumb with me when I asked them. I have been an aide for 20 years I know how places are ran and this was very unacceptable and I would never treat my residents as such.

This is the WORST place! The rooms are not cleaned, you must constantly make requests for bed changes, the majority of the staff (in excess of 90% that I was in contact with) does NOT care about the patients. My brother was there for three weeks with a severe foot wound. On several occasions upon arrival his wound was not covered when I advised the nurse I was told that he was not her patient. After advising the correct nurse I still waited more than three hours, on some occasions, for someone to change his dressing. He is now back in the hospital having surgery on the same foot that is badly infected, that they neglected to properly care for and then had the nerve to ask if he would be returning to them!?! Long term care might be better but for short term care, I would not recommend this place to any one.

My grandpa was taken here a week after his surgery to attend rehab. He arrived in the afternoon. They said he was going to be transferred to the portage location instead. I guess this was the reason they saw fit to NEGLECT him all night. He did not receive any of his medications. He was not brought any food. He was found bleeding the next morning and had to be sent to the hospital. SHAME on you Golden Living Merrillville. You're So Lucky my family isn't the lawsuit type. You are suppose to be healthcare professionals. If family hadn't come to be with him today you might have had a sentient event on your hands. I have a feeling it wouldn't be your first.
