Please NEVER send your loved one who has moderate or severe dementia or Alzheimer's to Indigo Palms Assisted Living/Memory Care. Check the Daytona police complaints regarding concerns for Residents reported by Families. In our case, Family removed my mother late her first night there due to finding her in unacceptable environmental conditions in her room in extremely poor physical, emotional and mental health. Although we had made it clear to the Director of Admissions how mentally and physically fragile my mother was, and we were assured she would be in good hands prior to her entrance, she was left to independently fend for herself in her room, which she could not do. Staff's infrequent check-ins were insufficient to meet the needs of my mother. In our opinion, the Director of Nursing was of no help that evening. Police came to the scene at the time and even took pictures. Another family had filed a similar police report only the week before. We wish we had checked for prior police reports; we can now only help others. Police report these complaints to the Department of Children and Families, but then it is out of their hands. My mother never recovered from her traumatized state from that evening, immediately requiring 24/7 in-home hospice care while she mentally and physically shut down until she died a week later. All has been reported to the various Florida agencies; it is unacceptable and incomprehensible to my family that the State of Florida continues to permit Indigo Palms to operate as a memory care facility. If Indigo does not understand the need for providing, or is not in the position to provide, the supervision and care necessary for their residents with moderate or severe Alzheimer's, then they should not be permitted to sell themselves as a memory care facility. The Director of Admissions will likely tell you how wonderful Staff is and how wonderful your loved one with Alzheimer's will be treated there; this clearly was not the case for my poor mother. Please remember this is a business to them. Florida must provide better care solutions for their Seniors in need; if a memory care facility receives state funds, then all Staff should be well-trained in all levels of Alzheimer's as well as the care required for those at each level, and facilities should be regularly monitored especially evenings and weekends. May G-d protect the residents of Indigo Palms in Daytona Beach, and may G-d protect all Seniors with Alzheimer's who cannot protect themselves.

After caring for my dad for 5 years, the time came to seek help. He had large behavioral issues, and was very unmanageable. After two failed entrances at other facilities, my husband and I were beginning to feel very hopeless. It was absolutely shocking that no one wanted to accept my father due to his behavioral problems (Isn't that the reason a care taker makes this extremely hard decision?!). Then we found Indigo Palms. These people have 'saved our lives' (both my hubby and I, and my dad). He went from being a person who was very outspokenly unhappy, to someone who seems content. He no longer asks us to take him home, and he seems to be making friends with the other residents. The staff seems to really care, and Daddy is well taken care of. My husband and I are beginning to actually have a life again, and really we couldn't be more thankful. The fact that this place is affordable is just the cherry on top!
