Continuing care retirement communities are only good for residents willing to give up some of their liberties. We would all want to think they have our best interest at heart but the fact is it's a business that must keep the end dollar a priority. There are so many regulations put on these facilities to help protect the resident that has no one else looking after them. If you have family involved in the residents care these regulations lead to a lot of frustration because residents must be moved to the next higher level of care when they meet certain physical and mental conditions. These moves might not be what the resident wants or needs. These facilities operate like an assembly line. The operation is the resident moves in healthy and active, then as their health worsens they move to the next higher level of care (i.e. independent living, assisted living, nursing home). When that resident moves another resident moves in to take their place. Each time a resident moves into independent living there is a large bye in ( this is where they make the largest portion of their profits). So there is an incentive for them to move residents through the 3 phases, so like i said it's a business. On the good side, if you just go along with the program and don't mind them making decisions for you then this is the place for you. They are mandated to care for you. Most of the care workers are great. I just believe there is a major conflict between making life choices for someone and trying to make sound financial decisions. So before moving in and signing that contract, do your research. CANHR is a great resource to know the details of what your getting into. I will be glad to answer any questions or to direct you to the right resource. Have a wonderful day

Staff is caring and well trained. My dad is there and he has received exceptional care while healing from hip surgery. Everyone is very eager to assist any way they possibly can. In the three weeks my dad has been there, I have not witnessed nor heard any unkind treatment towards my father and I am there on average six days out of seven, different times of the day. I would definitely recommend this skilled nursing facility for anyone seeking care for a loved one.
