My mother was a resident of Cortona Park for 7 years 3 months. She entered Cortona as independent living and enjoyed her beautiful apartment, staff, food, and the friends she made along the way. Things changed after she lived there just about a year when she fell in the bathroom and severely shattered her leg. Upon her return after 3 months in skilled nursing rehabilitation she required max point care giving which moved her her from independent to assisted living. In the 7 years she was in Cortona the facility had excessive staff turnover; 3 executive directors came and went, at least 250 caregivers and kitchen workers, and a half dozen Chefs. In that period the one constant has been the LVN medical director, which I believe has been the driver of constant attrition of caregivers who are underpaid, overextended, poorly trained and mis managed . The sad part is that Cortona has hired some really excellent people along the way, most unfortunately don't stay. After 7 years we had to move my 95 year old mother into skilled nursing because 2 new & inexperienced Cortona caregivers dropped my mother on the floor while attempting to get her into the shower, breaking her good leg and reinjuring the leg she broke 6 years earlier; two broken legs. She will be in bed the reminder of her lifetime because of our experience at Cortona Park. My observations are based on my daily presence in Cortona over the 7 years.

Nice environment and wonderful staff. But, the food could be better and served hot instead of cold.

BEWARE!!!This place looks good from the outside but on this inside it's a whole different ball game. Management is a joke especially the health & wellness director Sangeeta, she talks about her staff, gossips, creates drama within her caregivers, gossips about the families of residents & is just a liar she had even lost her assistant due to having her go along with her awful lies! They hire very unprofessional GHETTO staff. There is a 'lead' caregiver there that the manager favors & swears she is a saint ! They allow the 'lead' to curse out other employees & just get away with it the lead makes up lies & acts fake to other staff & tries to get them into trouble ! They over work you & show no appreciation what so ever, ALWAYS short staffed, you have to hear the poor residents complain about management constantly & the crappy services they receive for the high price they pay. Residents are always unhappy there ! You have to make sure EVERYONE is in bed on pm shift before 10 pm before the NOC shift ( a shift that barely does anything besides use the community kitchen all night frying up burgers which is a hazard to residents if anything goes wrong with the stove & play on phones!) comes or they complain to the boss & pm caregivers get scolded that residents are left up not in bed but let's not forget this is 'ASSISTED LIVING' residents can go to bed at times they please!! I advise people to work elsewhere or you will just be utterly unhappy! The community is beautiful the residents are sweet always concerned for their caregivers & expressing their sympathy to caregivers . I couldn't even finish my 2 week notice I had to quit due to threats & I had even filed a police report because the person who was doing threats did not get any kind of consequence from management for her actions I even emailed the ED & got no response. As residents say NEW MANAGEMENT IS NEEDED.ALWAYS short staffed, managers REFUSE to help she will only help with meds & even doing so she makes caregivers that are NOT trained to pass meds pass the meds to residents & she makes the medteck from the previous shift pre-pour for her just pure laziness. A family of a very sweet special resident use to cry to certain caregivers as well as myself about how disappointing it is how we are treated as caregivers how much cortona has changed and how terrible it has become because the management is so careless, also the managers caused friction between a residents family and care staff by lying saying the family was stating she was unhappy with actions of caregivers when in reality it was the managers they were unhappy with but managers blames 3 caregivers. Another resident use to tell us that in the resident council meetings & the meetings with Augustine that the residents would state their concerns & worries & managements replies would always be to blame their staff. A lot of residents confide in caregivers but they are afraid to speak up further in fear of eviction. Such a sad community! Sangeeta also continue to like my posts on here & keeps having them removed this is my right to express experience & let others know what to expect!A LOt OF PEOPLE FIND IT FUNNY THAT ALL NEGATIVE TRUTHFUL COMMENTS HERE ABOUT THIS TERRIBLE COMMUNITY ARE GETTING DELETED!
