As a brief introduction, I am a student researcher from Arizona State University investigating methods of glycemic control for older adults with Type 2 diabetes. Although I have not personally lived at Desert Winds, I have had the pleasure of working with the staff and residents from Desert Winds for the past two months. Dennis Thrush, the Executive Director of this community, has been extremely friendly and accommodating. The way he interacts with residents and makes them feel heard is truly a joy to witness. My research has brought me to many assisted living and independent living communities throughout Sun City and Peoria. Out of all the places I have been to, I can honestly say that this community has the friendliest residents and staff, and the most welcoming, community-oriented environment. My colleague and I will always be grateful to the residents and staff of this community. To anyone looking to join an assisted living community, I highly recommend checking out Desert Winds. Cheers!

My mom has been at Desert Winds Independent living for 18 months and it has been a terrific experience for her. The property is immaculate, the employees responsive, and her needs are met each day. Thank you, such a blessing for her and our family!

My mom was in Desert Winds for only three days when they wanted to move her to Memory Care unit. They didnt give mom enough time to adjust to the place. We had to move her to memory care or to another facility. The facility looked very nice and the caregivers seemed nice when we were there. Mom is doing much better now that we got her out of Desert Winds Assisted living center and into The Gardens of Sun City assisted living center. She didnt like Desert Winds; she said it was a bad place, that she was scared there. When we picked her up to move her to The Gardens, Thursday morning at 9:30, she was so medicated that we couldnt wake her and keep her awake. A caregiver helped dress her and put her in a wheelchair. Movers came at 10:00 to move Moms things. The nurse at the Gardens called 911 and an ambulance took her to the hospital. They put in an IV and admitted her for 24 hour observation. She was out of it all day long, and doesnt remember the day at all. Also the night she was drugged she lost her permanent lower front teeth bridge. We didnt realize this until Friday morning at the hospital when Mom said she wished she knew where her teeth went. We found her teeth in the nightstand by her bed. We wonder how she lost her permanent bridge. This wasnt reported to us. I am so glad we got her out of that place.

The staff at Desert Winds Assisted Living at the Peoria location are exceptional in every way.  My first experience was the facility because it immediately smelled clean and the aroma from the kitchen was down right appetizing. Prior to my moms move in date, I was informed of her assigned room and I was authorized to make my moms new room feel as comfortable as possible by making it feel like home. Also the room size which includes a bathroom and the room view of the court yard were all amazing!Erin, Business Office, was and still is very attentive, caring and patient.  She assisted with my moms transition from the facility where they no longer wanted her to be there and for selecting my moms beautiful room. My moms first day was amazing and my anticipation was so relieved when the nurse and care givers welcomed my mom with open arms.I appreciate the following people because of their individual love for my mom:Elizabeth, Meds Assistant, is amazing because she instantaly read into my moms mannerism, accepted her illnesses and has managed to work with her regarding her medicine intake. They also have build a bond which has eased my daily worries. Thank you very much Elizabeth. Kelly, Best Caregiver Ever!  On my moms first admission date and to current, she immediately made my mom feel at home and has spoiled my mom to no end. (I love it!)  My mom always comments on how Kelly watches out for her and the hugs and kisses that are exchanged are so genuine. Kathy, Nurse, is on top of it all.  Her attendance and attention is #1.  She was the one who met,  interviewed and approved for my mom to be immediately accepted to Desert Winds Assisted Living. Thank you so much for accepting my Mom. Barbara, new Director of Nursing, is very attentive. My 1st encounter with her was very memorable, which will be cherished forever. Adam, med tech, who has developed ways to administer my mom's meds. Adam is this big teddy bear and my mom loves him dearly. All the Caregivers are great!  Special thanks to Stephanie who cuts up my moms mangos; Angelica & Rosalba for being there for my Mom and Savannah for caring and loving my Mom so much. Jeremy, Waiter/Server is such a gift to the residence. His smiles and attendance is exceptional. Thank you for putting up with my Moms pickiness and serving her, her jalapeo and her 4 sugars for her coffee. Front Desk Receptionists are intregral part of the Assisted Living and without their great customer service the business would not flow as perfect as it does. Special thanks to: Nancy, Pam, Becky, Julie, etc. Thank you Desert Winds Assisted Living in Peoria

I moved my Father Frank into Desert Winds nearly a year ago, the entire staff goes out of their way to make sure my Father feels at home. Deborathe Director along with Gerry and Kathy have been a blessing to my Father who is suffering from Parkinson's. I live not too far away so I'm stopping by from time to time for visits and his smile lets me know he is where he should be.
