This was a long process for us trying to find the PERFECT place for my father. I looked at numerous locations and really liked several of them. The Gardens of Va Beach topped our list for so many reasons. I will try and list them out: One is that my father is very ill and he is on hospice care. Some of the ALF's in the area are only able to care for my dad until he becomes bedridden. He would have had to then transfer to a nursing home. The idea of moving my dad at the end of his life into a new facility was just not acceptable to us. The Gardens of Va Beach will be able to care for my dad for the rest of his life (with hospice care). This brings us tremendous peace of mind. Secondly, Mary and Barbara have made this whole process so much easier. It is overwhelming to move your loved one out of their home and into an ALF but Mary and Barbara just about hold your hand throughout the process. They are available in person, by phone and by email. My numerous questions are answered quickly and astutely. They both CARE about my dad (and for me) and seem to do everything they can to ease this transition. Thirdly, the staff. We were invited to lunch and tour and our server that afternoon was a WONDERFUL person named Tyrek. My dad and I were so quickly made comfortable by how patient, accommodating and caring Tyrek was with my dad (and me)! He went out of his way to make sure that my dad had a fantastic lunch and was made welcome. Tyrek helped us make our decision too because we felt that if the staff was as amazing as Tyrek, the Gardens would be perfect. Lastly, I am a RN so I have very high expectations of medical/care staff. I looked hard at everyone I encountered during my visits there. Did they seem professional, caring, compassionate, gentle, patient? I looked at the facility itself for cleanliness, organization, flow. Everywhere I looked, I was very pleased. So, there were several reasons that my dad and I felt that the Gardens of VA Beach was the right place for him and they were all very important. My father is very, very important to us and his comfort, care and well being means everything to his family. I am trusting The Gardens to take care of my dad for the rest of his days and I am not giving that trust lightly. So far, my trust seems very well earned. Thank you Gardens of VA Beach for being there for us!!!!

The staff are very nice but the place looks kind of trashy. There are two broken down cars parked in the front by the entrance that have been there for months. Piles of trash and old furniture by the side.

Before making our decision, dad and I toured several assisted living facilities. The Gardens seemed transparent in their policies and more interested in a good fit for my dad than in sales. For us a good fit included his ability to stay there if/when he needs changed. He moved in a few weeks later, and I have been so pleased with his care, their communication, and their follow up. They have helped him integrate into the community (even though he is not much of a joiner). The staff at The Gardens has responded in a timely manner to any/all my calls and questions, and when the nursing staff determined he he should go to the ER and likely be admitted to the hospital, they quickly arranged all the paperwork and an ambulance, and kept in communication as well. The rooms are sunny and clean, the staff all know dad's name and joke with him (while doing their jobs well). The food is good and there are numerous activities for those who wish to participate. The Gardens also has an on-site nurse practitioner and therapists, should the resident care to use them.

'Gardens of Va Beach is Best-In-Class for Senior Care.'My mother (mid 80's) and I recently decided that living alone had become somewhat overwhelming and a bit too risky, so after research and a few visits, we decided to move her to the Gardens. It is clearly one of the best decisions we've made in our lives. The facility is well appointed for comfort / luxury and very well maintained with competent on-site facilities management. The well trained nursing and support staff is 100% authentic and genuinely attentive to my mother's every need, which begins with making her feel welcomed and at home. The apartments floor plans are spacious and accommodating to senior needs without looking like a hospital or nursing home. The on-site dining (restaurant) is amazing and offers attentive servers, a flavorful variety of menu options, and socialization for seniors. Activities galore have kept my mother engaged daily. Best of all, the Gardens offers transitional care so as my mother continues to age gracefully, she will be well cared for in a familiar environment. I highly recommend the Gardens for your loved one. It's well worth it.
