The place had been open about a year when my Mom moved in (9/2018). This lack of experience quickly showed in the mostly newbie staffs behavior. (I suspect management was desperate to fill so many positions as they started out that they hired almost any one.) But this is a very hard job that requires a gentle and caring personality. I know I couldn't do it. Theres never a happy ending in dementia care. Unlike every other type of geriatric care, these patients always get worse. And they begin their stays in a facility like this with almost no mental capacity. In short, they are like babies or infants. Yet what is the attitude towards these helpless people from much of the staff at Pheasant Ridge Memory Center? CONTEMPT! Not just in their attitude, but in their performance. By December we moved Mom to another facility where most of the staff is older and more experienced, which in our case, has translated to a lot more compassion in dealing with Mom, and all of their residents from what I can see. You will find that every dementia facility is often an unhappy nightmare. It goes with the territory. But having contempt for the infirmed is as low as you can go, short of physically abusing them. At least that never happened here, which is why I gave them 2 stars instead of 1.
