I placed my mom in one of the homes because it was becoming more difficult to care for her at home. The staff at Westgate helped make the transition less difficult and I was happy to see my mom smile and get along with the other residents. She always raved about how good the food was and the staff were always engaging and got them involved in mental and physical activities. Excellent staff and I was impressed to see how involved the owners were with the residents as well. I highly recommend these homes if you're looking for the best care and environment for your loved one.

The care and support provided by Labier Assisted Living in a home-like environment with 24/7 care provided to a small group of residents is a novel model of elderly care that should be more widely available and advertised. I searched many months for dignified and safe elder care my parents and I could accept. My highest priorities were appropriate monitoring and support of their physical, medical, safety, and emotional needs particularly as they transitioned to less independence. I wanted to know too my parents could be supported thru end of life if/when needed. I knew instantly I found the right place after meeting Pearlbea Labier, her staff, and after touring the Westgate home in Mount Vernon, VA. My parents moved in 3 years ago. Unexpectedly, Dad transitioned quickly to hospice but remained at Westgate until his death. Care was provided capably and gently by Westgate staff. Our family was deeply touched given this unplanned turn of events. Mom remained at Westgate for 3 years until her recent passing. During this time, Westgate staff and residents became our extended family. Staff remained largely consistent affording them the opportunity to know my Mom. While Mom's memory failed her, she remained mobile and independent with staff support. Mom was fortunate to enjoy our occasional lunch excursions out and received visitors regularly. Frequent and unplanned trips to the ER no longer occurred. On the 1-2 occasions, Mom required hospitalization, she was welcomed back home where care resumed seamlessly. Monitoring of Mom's physical health was routinely provided by Patricia Adams (Geriatric NP); medications were managed expertly with an eye toward comfort, safety, and avoiding sedation. Mom had her own room decorated with paintings from her home and other personal/familiar items. A chair lift was available and encouraged when she was too tired or frail to walk the stairs. Members of the neighboring Catholic church visited every Sunday, First Fridays, and regularly in her final days. I was encouraged to remain engaged with my Mom and the Westgate team. Engagement was especially important as we all recognized together when it was time to transition to hospice care. 4 months after this transition, Mom passed away peacefully, gracefully, and free from physical or emotional distress. I was grateful to be present with her during her finals weeks, days, and hours. If you are looking for elder care/support for family or friend, I hope this review serves to encourage you to at least make a phone call to Pearlbea Labier. It was the best decision I made on behalf of my parents. Most sincerely, HM

Pearlbea LaBier, the owner, is a caring, thoughtful and highly experienced geriatric social worker. Although I don't have a relative living in one of her homes, I have visited them and have found them to be clean, cheerful, caring places where the residents are happy and the staff is truly dedicated to making sure all their needs are met. I particularly like the programs that are in place for the residents to keep them active and engaged.
