In 2011, I entered this community center, as a member of the community, and I never returned. First, the woman who was in charge, was very polite and walked us through the center. I saw all of the citizens sitting at metal tables. Apparently, they had just finished lunch. I was introduced to a lovely resident who has since moved away (Naomi). I saw an old upright piano, with keys that stuck, in the corner. I walked over and played an old 60s piece (Scarborough Fair). I thought a little Nostalgia would be pleasant for some of the old timers. After playing, approximately 50% of the people had enough class to offer an applause. Others sat and made faces. I played the piece perfectly, so, I know my playing was not off. One elderly 'gentleman' said, 'no one has ever played the piano here BEFORE!' He said it in what appeared to be an irritable and annoyed voice as evidenced by his gimlet eyed stare and growl.. Too bad, you are going to hear my talent and sit through it until I am done. Some of the people looked unhappy, on their last leg, and oh so very ornery. The room was not inviting in any way whatsoever. I saw no old movie posters, newspaper clippings, pin up girls, Gary Cooper photos, Marilyn memorabilia, Shirley Temple, Rita Hayworth, Mansfield, Elvis, Dolores Del Rio, NOTHING! My goodness, give me an hour, and I could have that place decked out, fun, nostalgic, and impressive. I am a member of the community, perhaps I will give it a second chance, but truthfully, I saw nothing for worth going back. As I said, the woman who ran the place was quite sweet, and 50% of the clique was polite and well mannered. Honestly, save your money and eat at home. You can make meals bigger and better, you can socialize with your friends on Sundays at Dairy Queen, and you can certainly buy a keyboard, play at home, and ignore the old upright on its last leg.
