I would not recommend this place to any of my friends or family. This place is not doing good at all. The owner and operations manager were fired by the board of directors for mismanaging the companys finances. The facility is not-for-profit and they were making sure they received their paychecks and bonuses while neglecting to make sure the employees were getting evaluations and raises. The executive director quit and the RN was let go. The new management team (executive director and facility manager) took over in July 2018 and the only thing they changed was the company name. The new management thought that if they changed the company name, that would dissociate them from the bad reputation surrounding the previous management. They promised higher pay for all employees but failed to follow through. Caregivers are still making $9/hr, regardless of experience or having a cna certification. Medtechs make $11/hr. There is no room for advancement. There are no raises, holiday bonuses or evaluations given. No med tech class is offered for caregivers to take and learn how to pass medicine. The executive director and facility manager are in the building once a week. There is no RN in the building. The resident care coordinator is running the building. Management is constantly hiring the rccs family members and friends, which creates favoritism. Issues within the rccs family is brought into the workplace and causing discrepancies amongst the other employees. The kitchen is cutting costs by buying cheaper products and serving 8oz kids cereal packs for breakfast. The census is always low (currently 30 residents/60 total capacity). The census has not been any higher than the 30s since previous management. Before hurricane Florence hit SC, the facility had to evacuate all of the residents to Hope Arbor in Loris. Management promised to pay staff 24 hours pay for every day staff would be working in Loris, even though staff would not be working all day. Management then told everyone that they would only be paid for the hours they actually worked and made it mandatory that all staff had to go to Loris. Management pocketed most of the money the state sent to pay the employees for the mandatory emergency evacuation. Employees went to Loris and slept on the floor in the rooms with the residents. Upon returning to Murrells Inlet after the hurricane, management shortened all of the employees hours worked in Loris. The executive director and facility manager pocketed the money residents families donated for the employees last Christmas. The only positive side of the job is that most of the residents are independent and there are a few good caregivers. I would not have my own grandma living in the facility, not for one million dollars. Subsequently, because of the bad reputation, the facility is having a hard time not only getting new residents in the building, but getting them to stay. Since the new management took over, the receptionist, housekeeper, activity director and many residents have left. I highly recommend that you do not bring your loved one to this facility.

Truly the most beautiful assisted living in Murrells Inlet. This community is built and managed by local Horry County residents. The not for profit status allows them to offer great care to seniors at an affordable price.

There isn't enough words to express how amazing Hope Arbor truly is - it is something you just have to experience for yourself! The staff is so warm, friendly and patient! They work tirelessly day and night to make sure that everyone there is well taken care of, that they keep busy with great activities every day, and most importantly, that they are happy! The facility is beautiful, extremely clean, bright and fun. You always feel like you're home. Thank you Hope Arbor for all that you do!

My mother in law was threatened to be sent to the lighthouse by one of the nurses there. The head nurse, Charlotte, was notified and said she handled the situation. The nurse that threatened her still works there. That's what they called being handled. The provided minimal assistance when all my mother in law needed, was help bathing and dressing SOMETIMES due to her disease. This place received a horrible DHEC rating. All of the staff are seeking employment from the facility across the street. The Executive director even left. This place is unorganized. A family member who has a loved one living there told me that the head nurse, Charlotte, ordered her staff to let her husband sit in feces and not clean him up. A staff member showed the wife this, as it was written in the orders for the other nurses. My mother in law no longer lives there. Activities department refuses to do activities with memory care patients. Not all of the staff is bad.CHECK ON YOUR RELATIVES DAILY IF THIS IS YOUR CHOICE. They recently advertised to come meet their new management team. The owners did not do this to clean up the place. All of the managers WILLINGLY quit. With the exception of the food service director. The horrible nurse still works there. Maybe that will change once thry get served by the state for violationg residents rights??? A lady I still keep in contact with STILL has roaches in her room down the 100 hall. More staff have quit. They have a low number of residents and have only gotten 1 new resident this year so far. Not a good place to work, live, or eat. HORRIBLE. The owners are aware of EVERYTHING. Have been for months. They are losing money by the day and that's ALL they care about. But not enough to replace the incompetent nurses that work there.
