I have volunteered at Somerby for nearly 4 years. Every time I walk in the building I am greeted by the same friendly staff that I met when I first started volunteering there four years ago! The residents are very active and stay busy with engaging activities. Somerby has such a cheerful and happy feel and I would recommend this beautiful community to anyone interested in senior living.

Somerby has become my home away from home! The old adage rings true here, If you love what you do, youll never work a day in your life! So happy to be a part of the loving team that makes up the staff here and so thankful for all my new pseudo grandparents <3

First I want to say all nursing homes should have cameras in all public places in the home except in bedrooms and bathrooms. We need cameras to be our eyes while we cannot be there. If for some reason we ask to see the cameras in a day and if they say it isnt working they get fined and it also goes up each time that happens. I feel Someraby was terrible. The only time they even cared was the day my Daddy died. If I came in no one would be seen during the time between morning to five. As soon as I came in some one was called , cause the activity director and others came right in. Many of times I would come and daddy would still be at the dinner table. The place smelt horrible. The person who let me in , said the second shift said your father needed a shower. That meant hed been sitting at this table for at least two in a half to three hours . He would still been sitting there if I didnt come in. That happened on numerous occasions . . They wouldnt cut his door or anyone else. I would do it. Wouldnt make sure they drank. Wouldnt do anything activity wise I would always come in and everyone would be sleeping in there wheel chairs. No music nothing. Complained all the time. Sometimes it got better for awhile and then go back to the other way. Daddy would walk with a worker without his walker . Times his sheets werent changed and the room and bathroom was horrible all the time and told all the time. I was told other nursing homes are the same this is the best of all. That is terrible. I am suppose to be his eyes and ears and suppose to protect him . I couldnt cause I was one of six. The pictures , dates , and things going on there is just terrible. I will always feel I didnt do right by my Daddy. If this is the care that are parents and family gets , whats it going to be like if I end up in a home. ? We need cameras in all public places in all nursing homes. So the cameras can be our eyes . If there is a problem we can go back and see what happened that day and if the camera they claim isnt working , they get a fine and goes up each time that happens.

Somerby Memory Care leaves a lot to be desired. Independent Living facility is wonderful but for those who require more specialized care the staff is inadequate.Lets begin with the food they are served which lacks variety and imagination, the activities for people who are in Memory Care lacks mental stimulation, how about some Arts and Crafts, The daytime staff for the most part are wonderful but the night time and weekend staff are awful. I am someone who visits regularly and am made to feel unwelcomed when I ask for a variation in my Moms diet or make a comment about her care and the maintenance of her room!Everyone is bunched in together no matter the severity of mental conditions which makes others like my Mom who has Dementia, sure but can still carry conversation. Look elsewhere, as it is my true feeling that if I had power of attorney my Mom surely would not be here! This Memory Care Facility needs to get their act together! It is truly disheartening as CHEAP IT IS NOT! Somerby MC can not expect to slide by because Independent Living is wonderful!

I have been pleased with Somerby. You can tell that everyone who works here really enjoys their job & is happy to be here. The community is very clean & there are multiple activities daily.
