Independence Court of Quakertown

Visited Independence Court as we are checking out places to possible take dad to. The all seem very nice and the place looks very clean and the staff seem to enjoy what they are doing which I feel is very important. Definitely will bring dad up to see its well

Absolutely heartbreaking experience. My Mom had her first assisted living experience here for respite care. She made it 4 nights and 5 days. On the 5th day, a Friday, the assistant director called me and said This is not a good fit for your Mom. Youre gonna have to come get her, okay? I asked what happened. They explained it was her behavior. I said Call an ambulance! My Mom is not like that. Shes a quiet person. They refused. Its Behaviorial. They ambulance wont come get her. Two more times I asked for an ambulance. Two more times they refused to call. They made that decision and they are not doctors. Instead, I had to drive an hour to get her (I was in Jersey) and take her to the ER. When we got there she was tested and had a full blown UTI. She was admitted and Hospitalized for 14 days. Was does that tell you? Medical!!! No one called me to see how she was until Tuesday, and it was to see if it was medical or behavioral. It was medical. UTIs do a number on senior citizens. One gentlemen wrote a review about this place and he was absolutely right. Its all good until a medical event happens and thats just not good enough for me. The place also reeks of urine. Its very very strong when you walk by some doors to residents rooms. Its like a liter box that hasnt been changed in a while. Urine takes a while before it smells, so you know when it knocks you out just walking by a residents door it is a lack of cleanliness. In fact, when my husband and I stopped in to get our money back, I sat on the blue couch in the office of the assistant director. My husband stood. He was the smart one. I sat on that blue couch and when I stood up I was soaked in urine! I had to sit on a bed wetting Mat to ride home!! Awful!! There are some good things at I dependence Court, for sure, like the hair dresser is a peach of a gal, but if the care is not there when you are away, none of the other stuff matters. My Mom could have died if she went septic, and 14 days in a hospital?? What does that tell you? This has a happy ending!! Mom is at a new place in Allentown that is Above and Beyond any other facility we toured!! Yay! Its been over a month, and everything is AMAZING!! Mom loves it! Has her own room, excellent food, no UTIs, round the clock care and they are not afraid to call an ambulance!!! I thank God we found this place!! Dont settle!! Get the whole package, Care, food, cleanliness and love!! I wrote this review for you, so that you will not have a bad experience with your loved one!! Look around!! Not here!!

I am employed at Independence Court and have been for 14 years. We are a compassionate, loving and very family oriented place. The staff and residents who reside here are wonderful people I am lucky each one of them are a part of my day. I can assure you that your loved one would be treated with the utmost care. Please consider us if you need a comfortable, loving and safe place for your loved one. I am celebrating my 14th year of employment and wanted to share my journey with everyone!

A few years back, my wife and I lived at IC. She has recently passed away and so L can now speak out. It is one of the worse, if not the worse, independent living facilities around. Let me list why I can make that statement.1. The nursing staff is NOT well trained. As a former EMT and advanced first aid instructor trainer I would go as far to say it is criminal. It would not surprise me that some residences have died because of this.2. Assistant living means having some help getting things done. We only needed help with having our room cleaned. The housekeeping staff refused to come in and clean our room. We had to rely on one housekeeper who worked off her floor to keep it clean. Thank God she was willing to go beyond her work load to help.3. We lived in a room without a shower. We had to use the one located down the hall. We were not able to lock the door, but were able to let others know that the shower was in use. Almost every time I was in the shower, female staff members would enter. I had to ask them to leave. Sometimes they did, sometimes they did not. I should of had the ones who would not leave arrested. I had to stand outside the shower door when my wife was in there to make sure no male staff entered.4. Shortly after arriving at LC, I was told I had to leave my electric wheelchair outside of the dinning room and walk ( which is very difficult) to a table. I had to have my doctor write a note for them to change their mind. This is how they treat disabled veterans. A true outrage! Since then I inform my fellow vets that living on the street is better than living at IC.5. The staff is, for the most part, lazy. The aids avoid the residents. They huddle together in small groups out of sight. They also spend their time talking about, making fun of, and belittling the residents. If you want your love one mocked, this is the place for you. By the way, talking about residents with other workers except it is necessary for their care is illegal. Perhaps the commonwealth should become involved.
