I had just started working here almost a month ago and I absolutely love it. I am a housekeeper/laundry PRN and right away, the ladies (and gent) in both departments made me feel welcome. In trying times these last few weeks, they have helped give me advice and made sure I was in a better state of mind. Not a job for the light of heart and worth every minute.

At first glance, Ephrata Manor is too good to be true. The pay and benefits for CNA's are stellar, the ratio of CNA to resident is better than most, the facility is extremely clean, and only requires 7 days a pay period for FT. Upon closer examination, management fosters a cult-like, robotic atmosphere and if someone is an outsider, the job will feel very isolating. There is a subtle, yet effective chain-of-command among CNA's which discriminates against outsiders. Management refuses to work with most employee's school schedules, further ostracizing those who aspire more in life. You will be on your own in a job which demands teamwork. Furthermore, they do not believe in medicating residents for compliance nor allocating resources for extremely difficult ones. (Unless the state police are called) You will be hit, kicked, punched, etc on a very regular basis. As the DON stated 'you are expected to dodge punches'. Some CNA's may find this a normal aspect of the job; however, I consider it an unhealthy boundary. If you disagree, they will find a way to get rid of you. Physically, the work is light; emotionally it is drowning unless you fit into the 'clique'. Everyone seems more afraid of losing their job than truth, morality, and the benefit of the residents. In conclusion, the age-old saying stands correct, this place is too good to be true

I was privileged to have my mom at this lovely facility prior to her death. Previously, she had been at 4 other facilities, and this one was far superior. The care given was excellent, and the staff compassionate beyond belief. I shall be eternally grateful.I hope if the need arises for me to go to s nursing home that I will be fortunate enough to land here.

My parents began their Ephrata Manor Experience in the Apartments in 2008. Both of them recently passed away, in the Skilled Nursing unit. My mother went from the Apartments to Nursing in 2013. Dad moved to Personal Care (Assisted Living) at that time as well. I cannot say enough good things about this Community, and that is what it is. Our family has had experience in all 3 sections of Ephrata Manor and the care has been extraordinary. The Apartments are lovely, and offer independent living and a sense of community with others who are able to care for their own needs. They are nicely appointed, have easily accessible parking, offer different floor plans, and are reasonably priced with no high 'fees' for entry. They do some minimal monitoring on well being through daily 'checks' that residents are up and about. They allow folks to continue to drive if they are able, but also provide shuttles to shopping, church, etc. In Personal Care, they provide 'studio apartments with the bed in the main room and a private bathroom. There are small kitchenettes with small fridges, but most eat their 3 meals per day (plus snacks) in a lovely dining room. The food there is quite good and I often enjoyed it while visiting. Food passes are available for guests for a nominal fee. There are lots of activities for residents as well. The level of care can be raised as the resident requires it, but they are also able to do their own care, laundry etc. as long as their ability permits. In Nursing the care is VERY good. Of course my dad was able to monitor my mom's care daily, but even he (who was very strict) had few complaints. Communications were usually very strong regarding changes in her health or other needs. She was always content and her caregivers were very loving and did their best to keep her involved in activities to the extent her health permitted. I also saw them give quality care to others. During the spring/summer of 2013 I was there on a daily basis for many weeks. In summary, I give Ephrata Manor my highest recommendation. Although I live in a different part of the country now, if in the future I need care in the area, I would consider moving there......
