My Aunt was a patient there for almost two years due to declining heath issues. At first when I would visit from Portland I thought that her treatment and the facility was ok. However, after having her move to the opposite wing (which was for long term care) and seeing how absolutely and illegally understaffed they were, I felt sick to my stomach having to leave her. Waiting in her wheelchair at the doorway of her room, trying to get the attention of staff to help her into the bathroom(which was NOT UP TO HANDICAPPED ACCESS CODES.).. was unbelievable to me. it was nearly impossible to adjust her wheelchair. (last room on the right -Eastside of hall). After spending one night sitting in a chair to be with her, I witnessed her being woke up about every hour and a half , having her get up in the dark and walk with her walker to the bathroom (when she was so weak and sat all day in a wheelchair ). Why would they, out of all times, have her struggle with walking to the bathroom ( risking a fall ) when she would spend the entire day without any PT or type walking in daylight ? No wonder she could not get her strength up... I was exhausted from experiencing 1 night with no sleep... ( Yes, they needed to check on her and address bathroom issues , but waking her up constantly was not to her health benefit. She was afraid to speak up for fear of retalization from certain care workers and I was also afraid to speak up because we didn't have another option to get her out of there at the time. Many times the list of activities were cancelled which was at least something for residents to look forward to. My aunt did get to go out with her family on a couple of 'field trips' bowling which was a highlight. The majority of meals were terrible. There was even one time, when they were desperate for a cook and the food supplies had not been delivered ,in which my cousin witnessed the residents being served for dinner a cup worth of cottage cheese... that is it.... as she questioned them and got something else for her to eat. I would bring in food when I was down that was appropriate for her diet and leave some in her mini fridge. The church service was great and I am thankful that my Aunt had that to look forward to. And of course, there was about 3-4 great care staff that I know my Aunt trusted and knew that when they were working she could rest easier.. It has been a year since my Auntie made her way to heaven. I just wished she would have been able to spend her last bit of time here on earth at a place where she felt safe and cared for. My hope is that Avamere has improved their funding in hiring, not overworking there care teams, and that the overall running of this facility has addressed these issues.

Just not a well-run facility. There are lots of good people there, like any other nursing facility I've been to, but the way the management runs it boggles the mind.
