This is the first of weekly reviews of the total incompetence of the Maintenance Department at Solon Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation. I hope future reviews will show me eating my words. Lt me be clear: nursing, personal assistance, dining, activity, and housecleaning are fine. What keeps this facility from being top rate is the maintenance department. These workers are fine with handling room floods, air conditioners, routine chores. When it comes to television, however, total ignorance and incompetence rules the roost. Solon Pointe uses Direct TV (and stay far away from this service) Dish system. When there is a storm I understand that our TV reception is poor. But when we have a cool, gorgeous, calm evening why do we get deprived of the use of 2/3 of our stations? And on a Friday night meaning the situation will not be remedied (hopefully) until Monday? Residents have repeatedly complained about these television reception issues ever since we were told we would be getting a TV upgrade. Maintenance workers have listened patiently and stated they would look into our issues. Nothing has happened and, instead, things have gotten worse. I fervently hope that by next week, I can write a better review.

The director there, Don Dye, is awesome! He always ensures all the residents are well taken care of.

My mom was in the assisted living at Solon Pointe for about 6 months before we moved her to another location. So first of all we liked the director at Solon Pointe. His name was Don and he was always very friendly and seemed to genuinely care for the residents. Our biggest issue with Solon Pointe was the food and activities. The food looked like it was just thrown together and there was never any fresh fruit or vegetables. My mom couldnt eat the slop they were serving, so we bought her groceries for each meal. Each studio apartment has a mini fridge, but you cant fit much food in there. Also they do not have a stove, so she was living off of microwave meals. The other problem we had was with activities. Their big monthly outing was going to walmart once a month. But they only take the first five individuals who sign up. Those five slots fill up in about five minutes and everyone else is out of luck for the month. Even worse, it was always the same five people and the activities director didnt care. When you are living in an assisted living, you dont have much to look forward to. That is why good food and activities are so important in these places and Solon Pointe lacks in both.
