Whenever I have walked in to see my dad, the staff is sitting around doing nothing. They just stare at you. If you ask about anything, they have to make a phone call to someone else. You might get an answer 30 minutes later. One of the worst nursing facilities in the area. My fathers wheel chair has one leg rest. They have to call someone else to figure out what to do. The staff didnt even get out of chairs to see what was wrong or to look for the other leg rest.

We chose Otterbein Union Twp because of its great reputation but this facility is lacking in compassionate care. We placed my father in Otterbien for continued hospice care because we liked the calm home-like setting. We soon discovered patience there are kinda on their own. They have to ask for meals, ask for meds, etc. This doesn't work for sick people that need someone to take care of them. We couldn't get him out fast enough! Management and staff were combative, unprofessional and rude. The last straw was when a night shift nurse upset my father by arguing about the quantity of medication he was to take. (He suffered from end stage COPD and didn't have the breath to speak let alone argue.) I had to call a hospice nurse at midnight to come to the facility and sit by his bed side to ensure quality of care. He was transferred out of the facility the next morning. I am writing this review to create awareness for any family considering this facility for their loved one and secondly, with hopes that the staff will improve on their compassion and realize they are taking care of sick fragile people, HAVE A HEART! (I had to rate it 1 star to be able to post this review, otherwise it would be 0.)

Called on a Tuesday at 4pm to try to reach nursing staff to discuss important treatment details about a patient of mine, and the phone rang for about 5 minutes with nobody answering. Called back, 4 more minutes of the phone ringing, and both times, the call was just disconnected. Can not recommend that anyone receive care there if they are this poorly responsive to simple phone calls.
