An older facility. No bad smells as indicated by some reviews. Fresh (ish) paint and new plastic seats on old, rusted equipment. Some structural damage was covered by paint at one time, now cracks are coming through again. Staff is very friendly. Some seem genuinely concerned about care for patients, others perhaps not. New Bern is 10 minutes away and has several better options that I would consider before placing anyone here.

If youre looking for liars. Brookstone is the place. Management is corrupt.

This is a place where residents are treated like family. Its unfair for a facility to be underrated by disgruntled ex-staff members. Its not a corporate big name business its a small family business. Please dont judge a book by its cover. You may miss out. My grandparent was a proud individual who never fathom he would end up in a facility. At first he was upset but, within a short period of time we had to bribe him to go out to eat with us. This place has had many upgrades.

The place is dirty and dingy looking. Floors, especially corners and baseboards always look grimy. Residents rooms are dusty, especially under the beds, and bathrooms always smell like old urine. Lots of grime around the toilet bases and toilet lid fasteners. Sinks appear dirty and stained. Recently heard that the only working washing machine is the huge commercial unit used by staff. So, residents have no way of doing their laundry. A number of residents complain about not getting basic food items, like bread, with their meals without having to specifically ask for it, and in some case were told there was none. It appears it is a rule that bathrooms in the halls are locked and residents are not allowed to use them. Whats with that?!?! The water in the community shower has been limited to little more than a trickle. Guess the owners dont want to pay the water bill anymore. At least one residents room is so full of stuff that it appears dangerous to walk around in it, probably a fire hazard too. None of the staff seem to be interested in providing assistance to those in assisted living. This is what happens when a facility has out of state, uninterested owners who never visit and whose only ambition is to collect Medicaid payments from the government. They give the pretense of being a care facility. Cant understand why NCHHS allows these Medicaid warehouses to operate at such low standards. Its no wonder there are so many empty beds in the place.
