Horrible working conditions that negatively effect residents. Constantly understaffed which means more medical error which puts residents health at risk. I witnessed residents not being given the right medication, being overdosed on medication, and physicians orders being ignored by staff, mostly because they were too stressed for time. Many days I worked through my lunch, I was the only Med Tech in the facility with one aide under me for 45 residents. VERY DANGEROUS, but management didn't care at all. They underpay their staff, when I was first offered a job as Med Tech they offered $9/hour. This company is greedy, they only care about management. Call bells would go off for 45 minutes and staff was unable to answer them, residents could be in the floor or having a heart attack but no one cared enough to hire appropriate staff. And when they finally hired a few people they thought they were 'better than thou' and refused to answer call bells. Safety and protocol is normally thrown out the door here. You have underaged individuals who aren't even allowed to be on the medication carts handing out medication. Training is a joke, you have to be 'signed off' to give meds but it's rushed and you learn nothing. Most of the new Med Techs didn't even know how to properly give insulin and take blood sugars AFTER being signed off and they were doing it wrong, jeopardizing resident health. The turn over rate is ridiculous - I worked there 6 months and I witnessed at least 15 people come and go. I constantly worked through my lunch and my break because I had no time to take one. Management usually pushes their work off on the Med Techs and overloads them. No appreciation. My last straw was when I had surgery and I had specific restrictions when I returned to work. Those restrictions were ignored completely and I ended up hurting myself. Management has no concern for employee safety. Anyone who isn't management are treated as slaves. Narcotics are carelessly accounted for and some Med Techs are close to management and have their sign ins to override narcotic counts. Medication - even narcotics - are constantly and consistently unaccounted for and discrepancies occur quite commonly. I feel for certain employees who've went above and beyond - you know who you are and it's been a pleasure working with you guys, I'm going to miss you. Bottom line - DONT BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE. I wouldn't suggest employement either unless you're into being an underappreciated, underpaid slave, whatever fancies your pickle.
