As someone who has previously worked for Atria on Roslyn Harbor, my wife believes it is important to share her experience and perspective on what TRULY happens here: First, they treat their staff like pigs. I believe it is a race situation since the majority if not all of the aids are colored and the staff of the atria are white. They say they do not discriminate, however it is simply not true. The atria staff nit-picks and criticizes the actions of their aids that are simply trying to do their best and meet the needs of their patients. Additionally, some of the patients could be a handful too. In order for one to properly care for another person, there has to be a form of effective communication. Some patients are racist towards their aids. Not to long ago I witnessed a patient yelling at an aid who was trying to help her. She yelled extremely loud at the aid to get out because she was a person of color and used vulgar language. Also some patients would go days without taking a shower because the patient does not have a proper connection with their aid and therefore becomes hostile. This is unacceptable behavior that the atria is condoning. In all honesty, are people even looking at where they send their loved ones? It is an unfriendly game between patient and aid, as well as between the aids and the atria staff. Although the amenities are nice, the environment in not. Please reconsider where you are sending your family.

My Dad was here for 5 years. There were pros and cons. CONS FIRST: His rent went from $8,550.00/month to $14,242.00...that's an increase of 67% over a 5 year period...over 10% a year, but compounded. It was outrageous1) IF it were an assisted living facility, maybe it would be worth it. If you parent needs extra help, you'd either have to hire a private aid, which is thousands of dollars more a month, or find somewhere else to live. If the aid you hired can't get there because of weather conditions, etc, they is no one there to help. For a little more than half that price, you could go to an assisted living facility where you'd never have to worry about your loved one because there would be 24/7 care at no extra cost. Honestly, I thought this place was way overpriced for what you got.2) For the money they charge, you would expect gourmet, high quality food. In a word, the food is vile. The meats are poor quality.NOW FOR THE PROS:1) The staff is excellent! Friendly, helpful, compassionate, and patient. I couldn't imagine a better staff.2) The landscaping is beautiful, They spend a lot of money of flowers and plants, but it would be better if they spent in on the nutritional needs of their residents.3) There are plenty of daily activities for the residents to join, if they care to, as well as special events and parties, depending on the holiday.4) The building interior is bright and cheery.5) The facility is well maintained.SUMMARY: I would have liked it more if I hadn't felt that my Dad was getting ripped off with the outrageous rent. He could have been paying off a mortgage on a house in Malibu for what the Atria was charging. He could have been living in a 5 star hotel with exceptional meals for what he was paying. I think there is a lot of money spent there on outside appearances, and trying to impress people who come to look at the place, but once you sign the contract, you realize things aren't what they seem. My review would have been higher IF more of the money was spent to benefit the residents, and less was spent on fluff.

MY mom doesnt just live at Atria. My mom THRIVES at Atria. The place is impeccable, she has met tons of new friends, the food is impressive, and the staff is the best part of the entire experience. The staff are caring, attentive and always available. My mom loves all the programs that are offered, and she can attend scheduled outings, classes and events for well-rounded cultural and social experiences. Atria is a community that keeps her social and engaged with other residents. My mom feels safe and well cared for at Atria. She has drivers that take her to her doctors appointments or to other events such as shopping excursions This is a beautiful community that has cultivated a warm healthy, caring environment for a beloved family member.
