My father did the research on retirement communities in Oneonta back in 2017, and decided to move to the Plains in March of that year. Initially it was a wonderful experience, but in the past year, he and other residents have been robbed and vandalized from staff holding master keys. My father reported 2 incidents and was told that it was being handled internally by management and that they had fired a suspect employee, he was told the police had not been contacted, which is completely unacceptable and irresponsible. My father was so traumatized, as this happened at night, while he was sleeping, that we have now moved him out of the facility to be close to his adult children. We have just learned from a friend still living at the Plains that break ins are still occurring. What a nightmare.

My mom has lived at the Plains since they opened. At first everything was pretty darned great, including the food. In fact, she raved about the food at first. And the various polices.Over the years it has gotten to the point of being terrible. They can't seem to find anyone who knows much about actual cooking. It's pretty sad considering the price of a two bed/two bath apartment is about $3,500 per month! They closed down Millie's Cafe. They no longer allow residents to save up credits towards future meals that they might want to invite friends or family there for and they give residents a whopping $3.00 or $3.50 'credit' off their rent instead. The breakfasts are included in the rent, but you can buy your own cereal at the store for a lot less. Pretty sad.Unfortunately there is little to no competition in the Oneonta area so it's easy for them to get away with providing so little of quality to their residents. I'm giving the place two stars because Mary at the front desk is outstanding as is one of the other gals. (Apologies for not remembering her name)

Interned with the Director of Marketing in 2015 and learned a great deal about the daily operations of The Plains. Amazing experience!

They have not refunded my deposit. Not responsive at all.
