My mother and I have had such a wonderful experience with Waterford; that I felt it absolutely necessary to take time to publicly share our story - in hopes that it may help others during this difficult transition in life. Long story short, I am an only child who lives with my family in California, and my mother resides in Minnesota. Dad passed away several years ago, and up until two months ago - mom was fairly independent on her own. shes always been very strong willed. Then one day I got a call from the hospital... It seems that moms dementia has been progressing for quite some time, and it broke my heart that I wasnt there to be fully aware of it. From California, I had to make some quick decisions in order to get my mom transitioned, and make sure she was safe. After researching several retirement communities in Minnesota, I chose Waterford, sight-unseen.With my first phone call, I was directed to a lady by the name of Samantha - who was absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable with coordinating every part of moms transfer. The logistics of the move, she recommended moving companies, hospice & transitional care, all of it. They even set up a conference call between myself, the director of nursing, and the specific nursing staff who would be looking after my mom during all three shifts, so that we were all able to be on the same page with moms care plan - and I felt so much relief I cant even relay it in words. I made it to Minnesota for a brief day to move mom into Waterford, and my first impression is that the facility was pretty nice, and all the staff seem friendly. Just recently I was able to make it back for a full week. When I made travel plans to Minnesota, I specifically rented a car and made some plans for things mom and I could do while I was there. Once I was at Waterford, I realized how many activities they set up for the residents there, and my mom was already immersed in several of them! Four out of the five days we didnt even leave the facility, because there were so much for us to do there - and mom really enjoyed introducing me to some of her new friends. Again, such a relief! Sorry I was not short, but I sincerely hope it can help another person who was in the same difficult position I was in, and how wonderful the outcome can be. Thank you so much to Waterford their staff for you do. God bless you!

We had our mother in their care for less than 24 hours. The shared toilet on our first day was full of feces, which was smeared on the toilet and walls - no one cleaned it for 12 hours. My mother was not checked on from dinner until 11:30pm - family had to take her to the bathroom and dress her for bed. No one showed up with medications until the family called at 9pm. There was NO STAFF in the dementia ward overnight. This place does not have enough staff to care for all the needs of their Alz patients. And they lied about refunding our money. We are reporting them to the state.

I have a parent who has been in the Waterford community for 10 years. They lived in the assisted living and then needed to move to memory care. I'm always impressed by how the management is involved and seem to really care about each individual resident.
