while the people on the floor are caring and kind at all levels of administration we found incompetence and a lack of caring. I was using this facility for short term care but numerous calls to the admissions person went unreturned. Even when I did speak to her directly and was promised a return call that day the call never happened. This occurred multiple times to the point that after I was assured there was space available on the dates needed I drove the paper work up to the facility to make sure everything was in order. Even with that effort on the day we arrived there was no record that my husband was coming. He fell at the facility and needed stitches and was sent to the hospital with paperwork but no attendant, even though he suffers from mild dementia. The answer, they don't have the personnel to do that. When I was going over his medications after he returned home I noticed that on his major medication for movement, a hand written label had been put over the regular prescription label noting a decreased in dosage. I immediately called the nursing coordinator who told me not to worry because it was all handled by computer. But I still wanted to know why such a change would be made and so I finally drove the container up to the facility and talked with the nursing coordinator directly. She promised to get back to me but didn't. When I called 2 weeks later she told me that another container had also been made to handle the rest of the dosage but that made no sense. She had no reason for not calling me back other than being busy. When I checked my husband out at the beginning of the month I was told I had to wait til the end of the month to get a 'regular' bill to submit for long term care reimbursement. The bill never came on the date promised so again I called and ultimately what I was sent was not going to be acceptable to long term care. it took many phone calls and emails to straighten that out and get a personally created bill which could have been done when I picked my husband up.I ultimately wrote to the director of the facility with the above concerns in June. It is now July and guess what, He has not called me back.Again, the floor people were kind and considerate but beware this facility because of the administrators.

Our family has had a mom, two aunts, and now another aunt live at Friends House in different stages of care. This is an amazing place and the care is exceptional. The facility is undergoing a complete renovation and the staff is consistently thoughtful and kind.

Friends House Retirement Community does not honor its contractual obligations. My parents lived independently at Friends House for almost 30 years. When they were ready to transition to assisted living, as their contract with Friends House allowed, Friends House decided that my father was not welcome. Friends House insisted that he sign a new contract. The contract negotiation between Friends House and my father dragged on for weeks. Friends House forbid my mother from moving to assisted living until my father agreed to a new contract. Having no place to live, my mother stayed with family members. She fell and broke her neck while climbing a flight of stairs. Following emergency neck surgery, she was allowed to return to Friends House. My mother lived another two years. Without a doubt, she would have lived many more years if she had not broken her neck. My mother died prematurely because Friends House willfully disregarded its contract with her.

The care my sister received was AWSOME! She had a terminal illness and was kept clean, up out of bed, dressed and socially engaged as long as possible. The CNA's, nurses, caretakers were kind and caring. The facility never had a 'nursing home' smell.I would recommend to anyone living in the area to consider Friends House Nursing Home.

If you love your family member needing assited living. Please do not put them in this place. The mice, bugs, and lastly snakes all were present at the time of my loved ones stay. Not ony these, but the care of the residents who do not have family is so bad. I am sure because the staff knows the resident has no one to complain for them.
