Chasity and Howard moved mountains to (almost) help my mom move in. They were kind and caring. I thought that the facility sounded wonderful. Due to the pandemic, I was unable to tour the facility first hand, however, Chasity and Howard were very generous with their time and answering questions. I sincerely appreciate all the help I was given when I was looking into their facility for my mom. Unfortunately this facility didn't work out for mom, nonetheless, the folks I spoke with were wonderful.

I was very excited when we were approved to move our 87 year old Mom to MorningSide Place. The Facility and People are very nice. The facility is very clean. I believe they have some very good programs for the residents, but our Moms experience was not good. I stopped by every other day on the way home from work to check on her since it was a new place. She has Dementia, so it is very hard for them to accept change. She moved in 6/25/19.The first two weeks were trying to adapt to the change, but I noticed she was not being showered and her clothing was not being changed, especially her undergarment. My Mom does tend to fuss when asked to shower, so I reported this to the Director of Nursing and it was to be addressed. My Sister and I showered her on a Sunday. I went back Tuesday and she was still in the same clothing. I went back Thursday of that same week and she was still in the same clothing and same pullup from Sunday. I changed her clothing and pullup and addressed this again with the staff. After that, she was showered and clothing was changed regularly. She also had some skin tears on her leg. I happened to see blood on her sock and had to ask the nurse to come look at the sores and get them dressed. My Sister and I started seeing her decline rapidly. Where she was walking before on her own, she was now barely able to get out of the chair and was using a walker. She had a wheelchair soon after. This was about the 4th to 5th week there. We suspected a UTI, which is so bad in the elderly. The facility was working on getting a sample to see if she had a UTI, when 2 falls were reported that week. Nothing broken. By the 6th week, I hardly recognized our Mom. She was sleeping all the time, barely alert when I walked in. Still no urine sample collected. I was ready to pull her out to go to her regular doctor vs. the facility doctor when Morningside Place called on 8/10/19. Our Mom had fallen hard and was taken to the hospital Trauma center requiring stitches in her head and was bruised from top to bottom on her right side. They indicated that she was sleeping and was checked on at 5:30 AM and had more than likely tried to get up out of bed on her own and fell hard. I received a call at 9 AM. I have no idea how long she laid on the floor, but we decided to pull her out of Morningside permanently. She went to skilled nursing for rehab on 8-13-19. She had a very bad UTI and was dehydrated. Since this was addressed, she was back walking almost without the walker. I understand that residents have falls and no one can be there 24/7, but this fall was extreme and she should have been watched closer, especially knowing that there were 2 previous falls. Oddly enough, the fall was a blessing in disguise. During her hospital stay, a large aneurysm was discovered, which is silent unless you have issues or are tested for it. Our Mom went through surgery to repair the aneurysm. She moved to long term care at another facility. It is my opinion that MorningSide needs to be better staffed and our Mom did not receive the adequate care for the number of care hours the facility required to qualify her to move in. In addition, MorningSide Place, charged our Mom pro-rated rent for the last week in June, 2019, when she moved in. That was fine. I then paid for rent for the entire month of August, 2019 before her fall and we moved her out on August 13th, 2019. It is now March 15th, 2020, and after repeated calls to MorningSide, they are telling me it is still pending with the State of Kansas. I have received several items from the State of Kansas in less than the 7 months it has supposedly taken for them to refund an entire $432.00 of pro-rated rent. Just not a good experience.

Our mother is a resident at this facility. Concerned over the attention provided to the residents. Our mother had over two weeks worth of laundry missing and not completed and was provided clothing from the lost and found.?? Hoping that BASIC services provided to her and all the residents improve.
