My family and I were very excited about the opportunity to have my grandmother join the Homestead of Olathe family. We visited many different senior facilities and felt a warm welcoming from the residents and the staff members we initially visited (Teresa and Belinda). After speaking with Belinda and being assessed by Teresa, the staff RN, we were told my grandmother would be a great fit and they had many exciting things to offer to help her become stronger. About a week later, after discussing all of our options on my grandmothers new home, we all decided Homestead of Olathe was the one we felt most comfortable with. I called and spoke with Dell and he was very positive and reassuring about us being able to my grandmother in within the next few weeks. He asked that I stop by the following Monday to look at the two rooms they had available, put down a deposit and go home with some paperwork to fill out. I called my grandmother to tell her the news that they have availability and that she would be moving. For the first time in nearly a month since my grandfathers passing she felt hope, happiness and relief. We started packing her things, purchased her new furniture, and all felt such an immense relief knowing she was going to get the care she needed at a place we thought to be perfect. Unfortunately, upon calling Dell today to let him know I was on my way to look at the two rooms, put down the deposit, and grab the paperwork I was informed that they no longer felt she was a good fit and she would no longer be allowed to make Homestead of Olathe her home. When I asked why I was told the nurse said she was too high of a risk due to a few recent falls. I asked why the contradiction when Teresa told us earlier that she was a great fit and even made suggestions for therapy and a potential wheelchair until her strength built up. I felt there was excuse after excuse why my grandmother, who is currently living alone, couldnt be welcomed into an assisted living facility that claims to love helping people who cant always do things for themselves anymore. It was one tough phone call for me to call my grandmother and tell her the news. Shes devastated but even more so shes feeling empty and unwanted. In the future I suggest the staff be honest and upfront instead of leading families on and giving them false hope and expectations. While I think the facility itself is good I am concerned about their way of handling business and the quite obvious lies and misleading information.

my mother is here and they are very conscientious of her mental abilities and needs.
