Homestead of Leawood

My mom has been at Homestead since for 7 years. For the most part, we have been satisfied with her care. Over the last 1 1/2 years, there has been a lot of turn over, which caused issues with the food service, and cleanliness of the rooms. However, they have made a positive change with the hiring of a Regional VP, director, activities director and nurse. The difference is the new regional VP is she is local, so can stop in whenever, She has a lot of experience and great ideas. We have met with her to voice concerns, and she immediately corrected the problems. With this new staff, I can see that they are dedicated, and truly care about the residence. Once the renovations are complete, this will be a place others want to live. It is a smaller facility, so you feel more like a family.

Well I dodge a bullet after reading about the food issue etc. well I tried getting my mom there even though it looked dated but end results was a denial and shady one at that. One person says dementia another says her behavior and sounded nervous on the phone so I actually rather not have her there anyway because sounds like they going through some issues. Plus , no one wants to put their mother where shes not wanted. I wish that place the best but God was watching out for us to dodge it.

My mom has been there since 2012. We really liked that it was a small community and had a warm family feel. Although through the years there have definitely been issues!!! There has been a lot of turnover, the cleanliness of the place was not up to par. Laundry was an issue, as well as the food! All of the staff we loved quit and several residents moved. We hung in there because my mom likes it there and every place has issues. True, some more than others but what is different about Homestead is they were aware of the many issues and trying to fix them. Recently, we got a new LOCAL Regional Vice President. And she is very experienced and involved. We have formed a family council and she has been at our meetings. Which is not the case with other facilities. I have to also say that she has gotten more done than anyone has in the last few years! It is wonderful. She has brought back several wonderful past employees. And has hired a new chef. They are working on the menu to include several items to choose from. Fresh soup of the day, not canned! A waffle station as well as an omelet station. And in the spring, renovations should begin to bring the facility up to date. We are finally moving in the right direction! I certainly would not rule this place out for your loved one. I am in healthcare and I can tell you Homestead is one of the few places that has listened to our concerns and are working hard to correct the problems! The one thing I can give 5 stars to, is the activities director!! Wow, is she wonderful. The facility has a new van and they go on several outings, lunch bunch and more. Lots of activities! I still believe that Homestead will be the best it ever has been and there will be a waiting list to get in.

Major loss of staff turnover including the chef. The residents have been eating sandwiches for dinner for several evenings. They have called out for pizza and ordered in from HyVee. Residents don't have any alternatives for the non-healthy diet being served. Van for outings has not operated for several months. This facility not up to the level to the other assistive living facilities we visited. Most had menu options for meal. They usually only get one. Many have dietary needs. Laundry is left in dryer so clothes come out wrinlked. Residents going back and doing it themselves. Unacceptable. They are paying for all these services.The very positive part so far is the manager has worked very hard to make it work. She is always positive and like by the residents despite all the problems. Corporate needs to help.The residents are close knit. Many things must change for health and well being of residents.

Homestead Of Leawood is a fantastic place for your loved one. The facility is immaculate, the food is fantastic and staff is highly trained. Shelly is one of the best business managers in Kansas City and Amanda is a stellar Director. They have earned our family's trust. Is a five star facility. Thank you
