CHECK FACEBOOK FOR OUR FULL REVIEWIt is not uncommon for a resident to wait an hour or more once theyve turned on their help light. It is not uncommon for a resident to be left sitting in their own waste for an hour or two before theyre cleaned up. It is not uncommon for a resident to be put back into their soiled clothing once their brief is finally changed. It is not uncommon for a resident to be dressed in clean clothing in the morning but left in the same brief that was soiled overnight. It is not uncommon to not be able to sit on the edge of a residents bed because the smell is so horrific. It is not uncommon to hug your loved one and be repulsed at how they smell, even when youre told theyve just been cleaned up. It is not uncommon for a residents personal affects to go missing. It is not uncommon for a residents bedding and clothing to return from laundry still smelling badly. It is not uncommon for a residents bedding and clothing to never be returned from laundry at all. It is not uncommon to enter the facility and have your eyes water from the extremely heavy smell of urine. It is not uncommon for residents to sit in their wheelchair every waking hour, lined up in the hallway, slumped over asleep because there is no stimulation or interaction of any kind. It is not uncommon for a resident to be served a meal that you wouldnt pay a dollar-fifty for. It is not uncommon for the dining room to be left with food smeared on the tables and floor while the next meal is served right on top of the previous meals mess. It is not uncommon for residents to be left unattended during a meal, which is a violation of the facilitys safety guidelines. It is not uncommon for a resident to walk around the facility day after day in bare feet, clearly a dangerous habit and a violation of health codes. It is not uncommon to hear your feet stick to the floor throughout the entire facility. It is not uncommon for a resident to be wheeled away at ten oclock in the evening for their scheduled shower, even though the staff is well aware of the resident needing an early bedtime in order to deal better with their disease. It is not uncommon to overhear the staff complaining about your loved one in a distasteful manner. It is not uncommon to have an aide ask you to help them fulfill their job description. It is not uncommon for there to be no communication with the family on meds that are administered or not administered. It is not uncommon to have to attend meeting after meeting with management to address a variety of ongoing deficiencies. It is not uncommon for the daily staff to know absolutely nothing about the results of a meeting between the family and management, therefore left completely unaware of any agreed change in the residents care plan. It is not uncommon for management to blame the resident for the staffs shortcomings. It is not uncommon for management to make excuses for the failings of their staff. It is not uncommon for management to promise improvement yet never see it. It is not uncommon to be told by management that many of these inexcusable conditions are because of the stage of the disease of the resident. All of the above are things that my family and I witnessed on a daily basis, and this went on for several months. We visited our loved one almost daily...but what about the residents who only had visitors on occasion? In those cases, there is no one to hold the staff accountable for the hideous lack of care being given. There are thoughtful and conscientious workers at this facility, but they are few and far between. Imagine good care being a rarity! There seems to be too small a staff for the number of residents there, but moreover, the problem seems to be laziness or a lack of care on the part of most employees. We were so much as told not to expect much better at the next facility. What a shameful, inept manner of dealing with this facilitys inadequate service. Valpo Care & Rehab should be investigated at the very least.

My mother is a current resident. Within the past 5 months since she has started hospice things have gone downhill. Not only is there a lack of staff (which has been problematic for more than 5 months), but the majority of the staff on her hall that are supposed to care for her act terribly bothered by her quite often. She's had good and bad times since starting hospice in regards to her physical capabilities, and unfortunately when she's in need of assistance she's experienced rather long wait times. For example, there have been times I have had to help her to and from the bathroom because nobody was answering her call light. Also, within the last few months she has said they implemented a restriction during lunch time for residents that need assistance going to the bathroom. She said they've told her there wouldn't be staff available because they're too short staffed and at lunch time everyone available is needed down in the dining room. What is someone who has to go to the bathroom and is unable to wait supposed to do during that time? It's totally unacceptable, and it's not the resident's fault the facility isn't staffed well enough. State was just in last month, and to be honest I have no clue how they are still in operation and weren't cited for so many things. I would recommend trying to go to any other nursing home before this one.

Run from this place. I have contacted the state to come and deeply investigate this horrible place. The director Goran should be fired he is more concerened about protecting his horrible staff and collecting that $800 a day. That he is allowing his patient care to fall by the wayside. He makes excuses after excuse after excuse. I was told my mother bedsore was not infected by the wound care nurse on Saturday 3/9. My mother was taken to the hospital on Monday i was contacted yesterday stating my mother would be having surgery today. My mother wound was infected to the bone . I spoke lack of interest Gorman about an hour ago he told me there was no infection noted in her file. He had the audacity to tell me she got infected at the hospital!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS OWN UP FOR YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES GORMAN. Run Run Run. He begged me to take the last review down. Not this time Gorman it is time for you to pay the piper!!!

My 90 year old mom, who suffers from dementia, was a patient after she broke her hip at home. The staff was wonderful, and treated my mom, my sisters, and me like family.
