Pros:First rate Physical Therapy Department.Care staff is outstanding. Nurses are well trained and knowledgeable. The aides are all overworked but 99% of them get the job done, and done well....this is especially true for 2nd and 3rd shift. The Administration knows what they are doing and are always helpful. Some do double duty when people don't show up.Housekeeping is superb, the place is spotless. Andre was very helpful and came in the middle of the night to replace my air conditioning unit when it quit. The dietary staff went out of their way to make sure I had food I wanted to eat. I was on a special diet and that made their life difficult. My wife passed away in August and Steven and Andre both worked extra hours to make sure I had transportation to her viewing and funeral.I made lots of friends at Heartland, people Inwill remember as friends until the day I die.Cons:Not many. All of my concerns were handled very quickly.

I am a 62 year old Male. I was admitted to Heartland HCC / Macomb in June 21st of 2019 for PT and Rehab after a Right Femoral Artery Bypass. I also had Osteomyelitis in my L4 & L5 which was causing me severe pain in my lower back. I received excellent care from the Nurses and CNAs for my wound care and ADLs. The PT Dept. was amazing in their knowledge and work ethic in restorative care. They pushed me through the pain and encouraged me continually even when I didn't want to hear it...LOL. I came up with a name for them and called them Physical Terrorists instead of Physical Therapists.....it was all in fun though because without their help and encouragement I could have easily given up. On July 5th, I had to go see my Surgeon for a follow up when he decided to re-admit me to the Hospital for a second surgery on the same wound. I was eventually re-admitted to Heartland of Macomb around July 23rd. I now had 2 wound Vac's on my Right leg, a Picc line in my left Bicep and still in back pain. Once again, my care was 2nd to none. The Staff that are employed there really do care for the residents and do a phenomenal job taking care of those who can not care for themselves. The administrative staff and Social Services Dept. were a great help to me. While all on my health issues were going on, I also lost my job of 17 years along with my insurance. They helped me to file for Medicaid and helped to try and ease my mind regarding the bills and costs. The food there was really quite good....I had choices of what to eat and if I didn't like something they would do their best to fix me something different. The Dietary staff were all very friendly and and interacted with the residents by doing more than just putting food in front of you and always happy to stop and converse for a little bit. The building itself was always clean . I had friends and relatives that came to visit and they would always comment how clean the building and floors were and how it always smelled pleasant no matter what the time of day or night they were there. The housekeepers were also very friendly and interactive with the residents. It was always a pleasure to see them and they were always smiling while they were working. Although my family did my own laundry, I know the Laundry staff also work very hard and were also friendly to all of the residents. Andre, the maintenance man, also came to my rescue a few times. Again, always pleasant and friendly. I also never participated in any of the Activities while I as there, but I was always invited and knew I would be welcomed to have joined. The Activity Dept. was always trying to provide something to do throughout the day. I, in all fairness, do need to say that Heartland is not without some problems, but I know they are the same problems that face the entire LTC facilities throughout this nation....short of staff, government regulations, finding caring employees, and in my opinion, too many residents for CNAs to care for at times. But again, this is a Universal problem that most facilities face and is not pertaining to specifically Heartland. Being in a Long Term Care facility (even temporarily) can be a depressing situation to find yourself suddenly thrust into. Nobody knows what our futures have in store for us. I certainly had no cue that I would end up the way I . If you have someone in a facility, please visit them as often as possible. Mental health has a lot to do with physical healing. If you don't want to get better, you won't. These caregivers employed at Heartland in Macomb became like family to me and I couldn't think of a better place for me to have gone. I thank all of Heartland in Macomb for being a vital part of my healing and Rehab. I would not hesitate to go back there if needed and I would also not be afraid to place a loved one in this facility.

From Stan OHern Two years ago when I broke my ankle , Heartland fixed me as good as new. Recently I had a bad burn and was in Springfield burn center. When asked where I would like to recover, there was no doubt. I wanted to go Heartland. I found the staff to be excellent in every way. The pt and ot pushed me far beyond my limits. The end results was that I reached my goals in record time with cheerful encouragement from them. The meals were excellent. The housekeeping staff was super. I praise God for the nurses who delivered my pain medication promptly. Leslie, Debbie and Athena did an outstanding job with all my paper work dealing with admissions and dismissal. The CNAs were spectacular in doing so many things. Connie and Ashley took great care of my burns in a very gentle way . Everyone at heartland treated me like family.
