We love visiting my father at The Esquiline. He has been there for about a year and a half, and has made new friends, developed new interests, re-engaged with old hobbies, and his health has improved from the regular meals and the incentive to exercise. We join him for lunch or dinner whenever our schedule allows because frankly, the food is fresh, inventive and well-prepared. The events and entertainment are first-class, but we also like popping in on normal days. We are starting to know more and more of the residents by name, but better still, ALL the staff knows my dad by name. Of the residences we visited when my father was looking to simplify his life, this one was high on welcoming, and it has remained that way. I should also mention -- the grounds of the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows are gorgeous and tranquil, year 'round. Finally, we found The Esquiline to be more affordable than similar residential communities. That was not the deciding factor, but it certainly was a nice bonus. Everyone looking for a retirement community should visit and stay for a meal. ... I should add: The Esquiline is a Life Plan Community, and we have already checked out (and made a few friends at) the Assisted Living portion of the campus, and the Nursing Care center. As much as I hate to think of my dad losing his independence, my whole family is relieved and happy that should he eventually need additional skilled care, the same level of joy, friendliness and compassion can be found in these areas. Dad has a home for life, steps away from his friends, and the door is always open to his family.
