I love it here! Very spiritual and inspiring to see all the little shrines along the path, knowing it resembles one in Japan called the 88 shrines that is often walked as a pilgrimage. I highly recommend going to the formal presentation on Sundays! Very interesting and historical!

Went today for the Pilgrimage of Compassion. Very beautiful place. The event had all kind of demonstrations (Calligraphy, Origami, Lei making, bonsai exhibit, etc). This year Grandmaster Riley Lee ( a world-renowned shakuhachi flutist) played while you walked the 88 shires. If you have time while visiting Kauai this is a very unique place that you wont find anywhere else. Info from website:Lawai International Center, a non-profit community project, is an archaeological and cultural treasure in a valley that has long been recognized as a healing sanctuary. In 1904 the first generation of Japanese immigrants built 88 shrines replicating an ancient pilgrimage of 88 temples in Shikoku, Japan. Today, it is the only such site existing outside of Japan and is one of the oldest Buddhist temple sites in the country. Volunteers are bringing these shrines and this valley back to prominence as an international center for compassion, education and cultural understanding.
