Pros:Cleanliness:If I were rating only on cleanliness, this would have been rated 5+ stars. This is one of the cleanest facilities we have been in. I always check around moldings, window sills, corners, and bathroom facilities. I didn't find a dust bunny anywhere. The facility is cleaned daily and once a week everything is removed from the rooms and the room is cleaned top to bottom. Everything is cleaned before putting back in the room.Food:The food is not just nourishing, but appetising as well. And I can attest to it because (for a very small fee) I was able to purchase my meals. What I ate was the same foods served to my husband.Staff:The staff were caring, courteous, respectful, and for the most part, effecient. The manager and staff dealt with any problems that arose.Cons:This is an older facility and though exceptionally clean, was in need of repairs. My husband was in a two person room and shared a bathroom with an adjoining room. This was no problem, because my husband was bedridden. But when I emptied his urinal, I discovered the floor around the toilet was in very bad repair. There was a miscommunication between the VA, myself, and Shamrock which led to my husband not having a CPAP the first night. I supplied his from home, but the staff were not familiar or trained on using a CPAP. Mary brought the caregivers together and I was able to instruct them on it's use.Two caregivers tried putting my husband in a sling to lift him, but did it wrong and hurt his back. Conclusion:Shamrock as a care facility is better than some and worse than others. What it boils down to, if you put your loved one in any care facility, it is important to remain a part of their care. Most facilities are like hospitals; they are short staffed and poorly funded. The only way to assure quality care, is to stay involved.
