I was looking for a place to bring my mother to be closer to me as she was aging. My sister and I sat with the Marketing/Sales rep at Brookdale and then met with the financial director and the Director of the facility. They all made us feel so comfortable and that their top priority was caring for our loved one and that we would be a 'family'. They said all the right things and seemed so sincere.Once my mother moved in I don't feel we received all the 'touchy feely' care they promised us and boasted about while they were taking our deposit and paperwork. My mother lived there 2 weeks and they did nothing to introduce her to other residents or get her engaged in any way. I had to call the Director broken hearted that my mother was just sitting in her room daily with no engagement at all. I was giving her time to adjust and thought the staff would help. The facility does not offer a lot in community events and they do not encourage the residents to get out of their rooms and socialize. My mother became ill on a Wednesday morning and the nurse called me to come to her apartment. I took her to the emergency room and she ended up being admitted to the hospital. She was in the hospital 5 nights when I finally went back to the facility to file the papers for mother to move out and to start cleaning her apartment. NOT ONCE during those 6 days did they contact me by phone to see how my mother was doing. They didn't even miss her. They were surprised that I was upset that they didn't even reach out to me to check on her. My mother passed away a few days later and I informed the front desk person because none of the leadership staff was available. It has been one month and they NEVER called me to give condolences or send a card. The 'family like' atmosphere they sold us on our initial visit is not what we received. If you are okay with no contact with the staff and walking through the building and rarely seeing a staff member then this is your place. If you want to be involved in the care of your loved one and want the communication between staff and you then this is not your place.

It is a lovely and well-run place for our family members to live.
